Mr Prospector bred horses? Do you have one?

16.2 Solid bay Grandson

http://www.pedigreequery.com/chev+emblem

He is a 9 OTTB, just started riding last December. Recently started him over some fences and he seems to enjoy it! I’m hoping he will make a jumper!

He is a sensitive guy, a little hot, mostly anxious but he does want to please! I love him!!

He has retracted heels so he needs to always be in a wedge heel, but other then that no soundness issues.

My 2009 colt is a grandson of Mr Prospector. F8 is right… there are still some around and actively covering mares. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/comet85

According to Pedigree Query ( admittedly not a perfect source) Mr. P 's last crop of 20+ was born in 2000. So actual sons and daughters are out there. They’re only 9 years old, which means they’re younger than anything I own!

very cool - do you have any pics to share?

I have two!

Both mares… the first is this mare:

www.pedigreequery.com/little+gusher

Mr. P is her great-grandsire all the way up the male line… She does hunters and jumpers, tends to be on the hot side of things but occasionally we can get her to play nice in the hunter ring… fantastic jump and trot. Here’s a pic of her showing in the jumpers at Spruce Meadows in May http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6632177&l=39a96d1870&id=823795009
and one of her doing the hunters: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6702426&l=4205c5affc&id=823795009

The second mare actually has Mr P in the exact same spot in her pedigree (different grand sire though) : www.pedigreequery.com/p+c+valentine
She too is quite hot and is taking a year off to have a baby and grow up a bit… she’s 7 but acts like she’s 2. Amazing jump on her as well and she is aimed for the jumper ring (much too quick for the hunters). She also has an amazing trot with great extension and would probably be well suited for the dressage ring if it wasn’t for the hotness!
Unfortunately not many action shots of her! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=271117&l=07d823ebae&id=823795009

Really? That seems crazy that there is one left?[/QUOTE]

There was one left still racing. Colt was owned by the Prince of Dubia and trained by Asmussen. All very capable people with loads of experience. He had been in excellent hands all along but just had a seriously nasty personality. I wish I could recall the horses exact name for you but it has been a few years. Mr P died in 1999.

Here is my favorite horse race photos of all times…It is of one of his foals racing: Great Prospector biting Golden Derby during the Tremont Stakes on July 21, 1980 http://www.equestriantraining.com/images/savagephoto.jpg

Okay, that makes more sense!! That picture is unbelievable. Poor horse on the right–just trying to do his job…

I do see a bit of that edge in my gelding.

Phew! I hoped no one took my post the wrong way about Mr P horses. Lots of athletic talent there if you can work with their edge

I need to go back and see if I cant find the information I had about excellent TB lines for quiet minds. There are about 5-6 studs known for impeccable personalities.

That is a GREAT picture! What drama! Love it. Thanks for sharing!

Sure! Everyone should see that photo. A better copy of it. That horse’s ears are laid so flat back on its head, teeth bared, eyes rolling…its awesome! Tough doesnt scratch the surface!

I finally figured out how to post online a photo of my Mr. P great grandson:

I guess i need to update my photos to online versions instead of just prints…

I will go to the track to get a copy of my MR. Prospector filly, she is a cute grey, straight legs and sweet. I think she takes after the Seatle Slew line from her dam.

mr. prospector mares

There are two TB mares where I have my filly that are the friendliest mares I have ever met. Their foals are friendly as well. They all come up for scratches and attention when I visit all the other mares just look up and then go back to grazing. Nice confirmation on both, soft eyes, just lovely horses.

There are plenty of Mr.P sons out there still breeding - I have two - one by Family Calling and another by Mojave Moon.

I have a grandson

I have a grandson of Mr. Prospector. He is pretty new to me so I don’t have any pictures right now. He is gray and we do the hunters. He is a fairly hot and fresh horse, even at 13 I wouldn’t put him with a beginner to do anything, even lead. I love him though. He is one of those fantastic feels you get from a hunter. He moves AMAZING and jumps the moon. He is very special. I’ll have to post pics!

I have a rescued OTTB that was starved and beaten by whomever bought her after a breeding facility went belly up and liquidated. She was rescued from the Kill Pen and was skin and bones but somebody saw what she was and her build. She has a scar at her neck from being roped. Before she ended up there she was part of a good stable and owned and trained by some people of notoriety in racing. But it wasn’t enough.

She is a leggy, fine boned bay mare of 7 now. She is a descendant of Man O’War, War Regalia, War Ribbon, Something Royal & Bold Ruler (Secretariat’s dam and sire), and a Mr. P granddaughter. She was inconsistent on the track: either winning by over 6 lengths and smoking the competition or unable to catch up. If they let her have her head, she would win. Hold her back and she thinks she is supposed to STAY back.

She is the most eager eager to please and steady TB I have ever seen - especially so young.

I despise racing for what it does to these animals. Though it would take multiple people to subdue her after a race (I’ve watched all 17 archived videos of her) she is as calm as can be. You can set firecrackers off next to her and she won’t flinch. Her trainer that rehabbed her wouldn’t hesitate to stand behind her derrier and give it a good smack knowing she wouldn’t kick. She’s solid. Other than Mr. P, she has breeding that is fortunately diversified despite some inbreeding to horses from France and elsewhere which I think helps a bit as racing has a lot of twisted family trees.

her pedigree:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/social+calendar3

I have one - a 2011 mare by City Zip. She has Mr. P on top and bottom. Here is her pedigree:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/loya2

We recently purchased her as a broodmare prospect and she is in foal to Declaration of War for a 2019 foal. She was a durable, workmanlike race horse who won on different surfaces. She is well built, sweet and kind, but definitely not dead quiet. She’s a lovely sort, and I am anxious to see what she produces from this cross with a Danzig line stallion who excelled on both turf and dirt, in Europe and the U.S., during his career.

LOVE the photo… I have an appendix mare, Mr Gunsmoke breeding on top and out of a Jockey Club TB mare. Mr Prospector up close on the TB side.

She’s not big (900 some pound Hony), but she’s crazy athletic… and it seems from the photo that her cow savvy doesn’t stem exclusively from Mr Gunsmoke!

Here is mine. He is 5yr old.

Lots of personality. Mouthy with everything. Not the greatest work ethic but is improving. He can be a bit quirky but is athletic. Very active mind. Smart, sometimes too damn smart. Great on trails. Deathly afraid of liverpools. I love him and the challenge.

Here is a photo of him as a three year old.

And here is a photo of him jumping. I think he was maybe 4.5 years old in this picture.

Some video of him jumping from a few months ago.

In this day and age you can’t swing a cat without hitting a Mr P horse… that goes for all of the ancestors you’ve mentioned - they’re bepopulate in just about every modery race horse.

more interesting than the horses you’ve mentioned is a fact she has Gay Missile & Rare Performer up so close - those are incredible names for sport pursuits but are, by now ancestors in most horses. Same goes for Graustark and Nureyev. From that pedigree you could expect a serious event horse, if the stars aligned and she is sound.
