Mr Prospector bred horses? Do you have one?

Have a 16.3h Bay Mr. Prospector Grandson

He’s in training to be a hunter. BIG canter, easy jump, likes fences. Very level headed and easy to deal with. Bit of a slow poke. He has GREAT feet and is VERY big boned. Is still growing at 5 years old. Not the best trotter ever, but his canter makes up for it.

Jet’s Grandfather is Forty Niner (By Mr P). Jet can jump the moon, very catlike, doesn’t have a stop in him, but sensitive and full of himself. Lots of personality, loves attn and grooming.

Confo wise, he has a short back, slightly straight in back, and pasterns that are shorter than I’d like, which leads to a shorter strided trot than desired for hunters. He does jumpers though, and can turn on a dime and is quick and careful.

Great feet. Very easy keeper.

Here’s Bluesy’s pedigree: http://www.pedigreequery.com/bluesy2

And a recent picture of him just hanging out here

He’s very kind, super sensitive, sweet, gentle, intelligent and tries hard - fabulous work ethic. This horse never says no, and loves attention. He has a huge stride and jumps super cute as well (definately a hunter, though could do jumpers). He’s quite laid back, though definitely has his moments of excitability.

He does crib and has an issue with his ears - the people on the race track had to take his bridle apart to get it on him; he’s much better now, though he does have some rare once in-the-blue-moon days where if you go to pet his, he thinks you are going to devour his ears.

This is a very special horse for me - I’ve owned him for ten years and would never sell him. He really takes care of me and is just so wonderful to be around.

We’ve got one. She’s jam-up! She’s little and quick, but she has a big stride for her size. She’s really sweet and one of my all-time favorite mares to have around.
She does not have the best legs though. She’s always paddled with her right front and for the last year has had trouble with her knees. I swear, one has even gotten ‘out of alignment’. Needless to say, she’s done jumping :frowning:

Well our TB stallion has Mr Prospector in him. This is his bloodlines
http://www.pedigreequery.com/new+york+cat He is hunter, hunter, hunter. Was bought as an event prospect. Sadly, he gets calmer, lower set head without ask, and never misses a pace to his jump without even trying to gain speed. (Ok I am saying this as a person who really wanted him as an upper level prospect!) Here is him on his 3rd ride after racing for years and years. He is an 8yr stallion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBLZBFmdBYE

I would say hunter wouldn’t you? By the way he is beyond a pussy cat.

I don’t see him as an ideal hunter sire. He sounds sweet.

By stakes placed April Ax (who was the subject of a thread over on breeding IIRC got a few good Hunters on the ground, and they look alike) he by stakes winning Ax II (Fr) by Mahmoud (Fr), tail male is Bold Ruler. April Ax was exported back to France and ended life siring Sport Horses. They were grass racers, no dirt track hence not so fast but a deceptively ground eating stride despite smallish stature.

Female side is an unraced mare by a son of Bold Bidder with Mahmoud showing up again aways back. Tail female to Olden Times and Prove it IIRC and some South American imports.

NO Mr P as I do not need speed in a Hunter and it can come with some other side effects. Have to say, the BR/Mamoud mare is not such a great jumper (little flat) but she is sure better between the jumps and has won her share in excellent competition. Now 20, still doing 2’6", quite durable.

Trav was a Mr. Prospector grandbaby. Here’s his pedigree.
http://www.pedigreequery.com/trevelyan4. He was quite handsome, and had a very sweet, willing, personality 99.9% of the time. Every once in a while something would push his crazy button, but it never lasted long. Hunter and Dressage judges both loved him, he seemed to be able to do it all. One of the bravest horses I’ve ever seen, pretty much if it was new, he had to go check it out. Would babysit all of the family kids, then go in the ring and not miss a beat or a lead change… ever. He loved to jump.

I don’t think I’ll ever have another one like him, he was special in every way.

I also had a mare that was a Mr. Prospector grandbaby. She was looney tunes, but I loved her. http://www.pedigreequery.com/annie+mactagish. Very pretty little mare, fast as lightening. Still looking for her.

Actually, I’ve had 3!

Rico is a Mr. P great grandbaby. http://www.pedigreequery.com/red+wrecker Another good minded horse.

What I’ve found with all 3 of mine is that they are smart and super sweet, as long as you don’t pick a fight with them.

My broodmare Meredith. One of the nicest horses I have ever had. Kind, level headed, talented and a great mother. She unfortunately had a suspensory tear and was retired from showing but is just a great mare. Beautiful mover and could jump with fabulous form.

Ok, Here is my Mr.P grandson. He is by a TB stallion called Line In The Sand. And he is actually out of an Irish TB mare and looks very “English TB”-ish. Great mover and very good jumper! I have been so taken by him and his ability!
And after seeing another Line in the Sand son that a friend had (same great jump but maybe not quite the mover my guy is) that I did quite a bit of research to see if I could eventually find one like him, or find a nice mare to breed to with those same lines.

He can be rather opinionated at times, but usually comes around as long as you are patience with him! He is overall very level headed! A little short coupled maybe and only stands at barely 16.1 but has a ton of push and engagement! I love him!

Here are some pics of us xc schooling, just to show off!

doh!

I just realized my other gelding is also Mr. P. great grandson! He’s a very talented jumper. Nothing fazes this horse. My favorite story is about him unloading a couple hundred feet from the NJ Turnpike taking one quick look at everyone whizzing by then shoving his head in the meager grass. Reinvigorate is 16.3hh and 9 years old. Without a doubt sweetest/sanest guy I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Not at all quirky and a total love bug. All he wants to do is please me. His only major flaw is that he cribs.

My horse Streaker (listed as No Pajamas) is the g-g-g-g son of Mr Prospector and has a GREAT temperment. Fantastic attitude at shows-a true competitor who is happy and excited to show, but not crazy/hot. That being said, we event and he certainly loves to gallop  While I don’t think he would ever excell in hunters/equitation, he is a pretty fancy mover for a thoroughbred. Fabulous jumper and while he prefers jumping to flatting, he performs well in dressage and has a good work ethic. He is definitely my once in a lifetime horse

my horse of a lifetime is a Mr. P grandson. Heart of gold and can jump the moon. Super athletic - but definitely a jumper, not a hunter. Funny that someone mentioned the knee action - mine looks a bit like a Hackney at times  Competed at AA shows successfully over 4’. LOVES to jump, will not stop at a fence - even if you asked him to lol.

Personality-wise, he is more sensitive than hot. He is definitely not for everyone but if you understand him and click with him - there is nothing he won’t do for you.

Between your description and Cara’s moms’…you have described my gelding to a T. He’s quirky & sensitive, very sweet but can be anxious & prone to tantrums. We make jokes that he rides on the short bus sometimes. He’s not particularly fond of dressage, but is an amazing jumper, scopey & catty. Right now he’s eventing training level but is just beginning to tap his potential. He hasn’t had any soundness issues, though he does have flat feet with crappy walls and the trademark Mr. P crooked front leg. He was a failure at the track. I believe he had gate issues, didn’t complete his first race, and was uninvited from NY racing. I got him for free from his trainer. Their loss, my gain.

My 4 year old OTTB is a Mr P grandson (by Gold Token) http://www.pedigreequery.com/final+resolution
I like the lineage and haven’t had soundness problems with others I’ve had in the past

i worked at the track a few years ago. there was the last living son of Mr P there and he was absolutely dangerous. it took 4 people to get him tacked up in the morning. he would pin people against walls, bite, strike at them. he was the rankest tempered horse i have ever known! he was 5 years old and had not broken his maiden race…lol. they kept trying because his owner wanted to.

most mr p horses on the track are known to have pretty hot ‘personalities’. i personally have never been around one in a hunter barn after they have retired from the track so dont know to what extent it can be calmed. mares play a big part in disposition and i image that getting a few generations out from him directly helps as well.

athletic yes…known for being good minded no

My horse of a lifetime has a similar mare line, precipitation, sheshoon, sassafrass. i would describe him exactly the the same way.
Loved riding him so much, found his dam, bot her, bred her, had 2 fillies, bred them, have two more fillies. They are all amazing!

( so no mr. prospector in this one)

I do have a race horse that will convert to a hunter at the end of this racing season. She is a MR. P. She loves to suck up to my hubby. Smart mare…
She is smart and easy to deal with, she has all of her screws

Um, you mean a son out of his last crop that was still racing? No way he was the last remaining own son of Mr P still alive. We got an own son of Secretariat (last crop of course) still covering mares near here, he was about the same vintage as Mr P. There are still some around.
