Mr Prospector bred horses? Do you have one?

Here is mine, a great-great Mr. P Grandson. He did the baby greens last year, won the hack more often than not, has a great jump, is too smart for his own good and tries to figure out EVERYTHING himself. He is getting better about the last bit.

He has this year off from showing being a little silly in the lines at 2’6" is not a big deal but at 3’ and in the Pre Greens it can cause problems, so he gets to grow up this year.

His dam is a half sister to Unbridled. He is cute as a button, short backed, kind of leggy and has a little pony head.

His first A show in the Baby Greens

Nothing phases him

Waiting to hack

I have one by Distant View (Mr. Prospector) out of a Halo mare. I always attributed the spook to his dam side, but after this thread maybe not so much.

He has a dreadful spook and does not miss one thing out of place, ever. That said, he events at the Prelim level and is very fast on his feet. So take the good with the bad…dressage tests are usually full of imaginary demons, but if he locks on a fence you better hang on.

Like some of the other Mr. P grandsons, he’s a little crooked up front from the knees down, but it has not affected his way of going. But oh, that spook–in the seven years I’ve owned him, not one person has asked me if he’s for sale. Which is OK, he’s not.

He’s been a great friend and a wonderful teacher. His name is Hubblescope, and he’s a CANTER horse.

Seal Harbor, what a cute horse! I love the picture in the rain.

Nancy, He’s lovely.
Nice tight knees/legs over that fence.
Is he for sale?

I’ve ridden several Mr. P-bred horses in the past. I don’t currently have a Mr. P descendent…but I have an interesting twist on one

Mr. Prospector had 2 full brothers - Search for Gold and Vaal Reef. Vaal Reef was unraced, did some breeding in the US and was then exported to India, where he became the sire of several successful racehorses.

I’m riding a son of Vaal Reef (out of Cynical Gal) who’s a total sweetheart - and one of the biggest TBs I’ve ever seen. Surf Guitar is every bit of 18h and we primarily event and spend our winters in the jumper ring

Mr. P. is everywhere. Even my 3/4 App goes back to Mr. P. through the 1/4 TB part of his pedigree. He’s just turned 4 and is 16.2:

My gelding has Mr. P way, way back. He just turned 4, is Mr. Mellow most of the time and is a real pocket pony. I plan to do low-level dressage with him. He hasn’t jumped much yet although he does have a nice long ground-covering stride that I think would go over well in the hunters:

Thanks! Unfortunately he KNOWS he is cute and likes to be the center of attention.

Wow, of the last 10 horses I’ve owned and whose registered names I remember only 1 has Mr P! She was a great granddaughter of Mr P and I knew quite a few horses by her sire (Weshaam).

pedigree

photo - her first event at 4

She was dead quiet, rock solid but extremely hard headed. There were quite a few times we questioned whether she wasn’t really a cow  She was really quite unsound while I owned her, mostly due to accidents, but has held up for the last 10+ years. It’s a good thing cause she could be hell to get on the first time back from injury  Evented to Prelim and is now giving an adult confidence at the lower levels. The others I knew from Weshaam were a little bit hotter, most evented to higher levels and are now mellowed into younger rider’s horses.

Honestly though, I would chose to own 8 of my 9 non-Mr-P horses again over her. We were a total mismatch.

I’m not good with pedigrees but of those other 9, I see lots of Turn-To (through Hail to Reason), Damascus, Ribot, and oodles of Nearctic (mostly by way of Nijinksy, but also Storm Cat, Lyphard, Icecapade/Clever Trick, Northern Sea… don’t even know if those are recognizable names, but I’d guess no).

Lots of lovely horses in this thread! And glad to see the jumping thing seems to be a common trend. My boy is also along the sensitive lines. He’s got to like you to really work for you. I noticed that when he was on the market before I broke down and took him. I also got some updated shots of him last night. Not great since we had to take them in the indoor due to rain. Not sure they do him justice either. He’s much nicer in person IMHO, but I could just be partial too.

And again

We should start a non-Mr. P. thread. My little jumper mare seems to be one of the few without him anywhere in her pedigree too.

I love both of them more than words can say.

My Mr.P grandaughter is super sane and no spook. Thankfully! She is also a CANTER horse, a lovely mover, and now the mom of my Mr.P great-grandaughter!
Awwww!

DD is leasing a great grandson of Mr. P through Forty Niner on his top line -

Cute bay, great personality, solid citizen in the barn, good mover and a nice tight up front jump. Little hard headed with his flat work, but is getting better as he and DD get to know each other and she shows him where the line in the sand is so to speak. He has learned she doesn’t want to ask for something more than one time and seems to be respectful.

She does 2’6" hunters and eq with him right now and hopes to move up to 3’ by the end of the summer.

Actually Madeline, your Devil horse is distantly related to mine (see above) whose g-g-grandsire was Stop the Music.

Didn’t read the rest of these…

I had one before I had my good mare. He was as bad as the mare has been good. Erratic, inconsistent. Flashy, pretty. Won some hacks and a darn near perfect jump (can show you a pic in the First Years with pro aboard next time you are down). Would just abruptly quit and blow on you. Vetted to death best care available, quality riding, you name it. Just a jerk.

By Hello Gorgeous by Mr. P out of a mare by Spectacular Bid. Quite the royal one in the blood there. Expensive yearling. Bust at the track.

And it was not the Bold Ruler thru The Bid. Mare is heavy Bold Ruler close up and, tho there is a temper there, not difficult, known several other BRs up close including an own grandaughter of Secretariat that are actually easy to get along with.

Soundness wise…well…not particularly. Bad feet.

Farther down I would not hesitate to look. Up close or on both sides, I don’t think so.

Now, your WB cross seems to have evened things out and that’s a good thing. no reason they cannot be good when you get a few generations down and some good outcrossing.

Hubblescope is stunning!!

I have a 6 yr old great-grandson of Mr Prospector. 16.2, solid red bay gelding.

http://www.pedigreequery.com/waki+nomad

He is by far nowhere near as brave as my Fappiano bred gelding and much quirkier and suspicious, but doesnt’ have a mean bone in his body. So far he has been good under saddle, but was scared of the saddle at first (switched from a brown one to a black on that fit better…lol).

He raced and won around $40k on the track. I have found some track video of him running anyone is interested in seeing it.
