Does anyone have boots that are great for NOT slip sliding in the mud? I prefer to wear my Ariat Terrain insulated boots as they offer more support, but they are not ideal when it’s muddy out. I have a pair of Sorel tall rain boots that they don’t appear to make anymore. Those work a lot better than the Ariats, but I would prefer something that offers a bit more foot protection as I am turning out/bringing in horses. Warmth is also a plus, but hopefully once we get to consistent colder temps, it won’t be as muddy.
If it’s mud on top of frozen ground, I think it’s all going to be greasy and slippery. But I’ve used dairy barn boots for years for mud. They are not warm but once it’s frozen I can start wearing my lined winter boots.
Right now it’s just MUD on MUD .
Edit, I take that back! Mud on Shit too. They just cleared out the manure pile and even though they smoothed it all back out, it was a downpour when they did it. There is at least some gravel mixed in, but its deep.
Nothing is really ideal in mud. And “mud” varies from a sloppy soup to partially set-up cement that will suck your feet off.
Then there is the problem that deep lugs in a sole retain mud, which can make the footwear intolerably heavy, and is hard on housekeeping chores.
That said, I like my Muck “Chore” boots; they seem to be a good compromise, are warm in the coldest weather while not particularly sweaty otherwise. Easy on and off, and you can ride in them, tho they are less than ideal. They do not offer a great deal of foot protection, but probably as good as anything short of steel-toes and metatarsal guards.
I got nearly a decade out of my first pair . . .
I have a pair of Le Chameau wellies with great grip! I put sheepskin footbed liners in and they’re heavenly.
Mud is supposed to be either slippery/ sloppy or sucks the boots off your feet? No in-between IME. I had no idea any shoes give you traction on slippery mud.
Let us know what actually does.
