Has anybody tried the mud socks to treat or prevent mudfever, scratches ? What are your experiences with them ? Just getting over a 2 weeks treatment period of stubborn scratches and while i am thinking that daily inspection of the legs, now that i am warned ,will do i wonder if those socks will work well to prevent this from coming back
Silver Socks reportedly help, but no experience.
What’s the diet? Usually, adding some extra copper and zinc makes a world of difference.
ahhh yes,i heard about that.thank you for reminding me.she gets soaked beetpulp, senior pellets, ground flax and equiline balanced mineral pellets
Which Sr and how much? How much Equiline, as that seems to be a ration balancer type feed?
Purina Senior pellets or Blue Seal Senior ,about 1 lbs per day plus good quality hay now that pastures are done
Equiline Horse Mineral about 100 - 150 gr per day
I can’t find any info on that product, other than what’s in the MadBarn database. There, it suggests a feeding rate is 1000gm. if you’re only feeding 100gm, then there’s not much copper or zinc, and 1lb/day of either Sr product is way under-feeding. I would feed either a ration balancer at the high end and drop the Sr (or use it just to make it tastier), OR the Equiline if that’s really supposed to be fed at 1000gm (a little more than 2lb, if that’s how it’s intended to be fed), and see how that goes. That’s a lot more in the way of copper and zinc, and everything else in general.
makes sense ! and yes right now i am underfeeding i agree- i am still in the process of changing feed rations from summer/fall where they have PLENTY of good pastures - the mudfever caught me off guard and is now making me aware to adjust my feeding programm.with a new horse not that easy so i really appreciate your input !
