Musty Barn Smell in Apartment

I have recently moved to a wonderful new apartment that is just about perfect for me. The best part is that it is above the barn, the worst part is also that it is above the barn :lol:

There is a sort of musty, horsey odor that permeates everything, particularly in the bedroom. I don’t notice it when I am in the apartment, but can smell it on my clothes sometimes. Even the clothes that are clean in my closet have that sort of funky smell. It’s not mold, just a little musty.

Any suggestions on how to freshen everything up?

TBH, I’m pretty sure I smell like horses most of the time and I just don’t notice it anymore. Maybe some scented sachets in your closet and drawers?

1-2 Oreck air cleaners.

I have that barn smell in my condo – which is NOT above a barn. I must bring it in with me on my boots and barn clothes.

I don’t mind it.

Oreck air cleaners work well in my “bird room”. Starlings are stinkers!

If it’s just a bit of mustiness, I’m a fan of an air purifier + a couple of these DampRid charcoal thingies scattered about.

I’m guessing it’s dampness/mustiness and not actual horsey smells. They can be easy to mistake for one another.

Mildew, second the dehumidifier and air cleaners. Also check to see that there are no damp areas in the walls, baseboards, vents, etc. If there are get them taken care of and clean with a mildew product. Clean with the mildew product anyway.

Ditto mildew. If you can get the LL to check for it in the walls and floor, vents if you have any, do so. If not, lots of those charcoal things. This purifier is rated stars above the Oreck, so maybe consider it? I’m probably going to get one for my bedroom now because of the reviews… I hate that I have to keep my door closed when I sleep during the day to keep the room dark, between me n the dog I worry about dander and skin cells. And odor.
