I figure if anyone knows the answer, it would be MVP right?
What exactly does it mean when my kitty shakes/vibrates the base of her tail? I always think she is going to pee on something :lol:, which she doesn’t. This is my quiet purrer who isn’t all that affectionate. She seems to do this vibrating tail thing when she is happy.
What does it mean?
I’m not MVP, but can I play? 
It means what you think it means – she’s happy and saying “Hi Mom, I’m here!”
My old girl does it all the time when I get home from work.
Cats have scent glands there - it’s much like the scent-marking triggered rubbing of face on various objects (including humans); intact cats will often “spray” a few drops, neutered cats often go through the same motions but spraying is uncommon - less active glands perhaps …
Both male & female cats scent mark.
^ This. My spayed female’s favorite thing to do was go for a walk with me (I was her “protection”) and spray the neighbors bushes. It was always the house furthest away - I think she wanted to claim the largest territory she could. “This is my turf!”
She never ventured that far from home on her own.

At least she isn’t acutally peeing. Haha.
Our Siamese does this, though he’s not spraying anything out. He’ll also do muffins while he does it therefore looking a little like a piaffing arab tail straight up in the air. If he’s extremely excited he’ll also chatter (vibrate his bottom lip and purring.) His brother just looks at him like he’s BS crazy when all this is happening.

You heard what you needed to hear (the truth) and what no one wants to hear.
My sister had a spayed cat who did this and, so help me, she smelled like ASS-But-Worse on occasion. As a family, we practiced a strict and Victorian “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, figuring it was all good so long as we had spayed her.
Then later, I learned that cats have anal glands (the work of the Devil), and my world was rocked. Order, logic and beauty have not yet been entirely restored.
Most of my six do it and they don’t spray, I call it excited tail.
An upright tail “shaking” at the base is a “Hey! How are you? I’m glad/ excited to see you!”
My dumb blond cat does this. I always thought he had step 1 down to marking territory, but couldnt figure out step 2 (spraying).
Maybe he’s just happy.

Tail thumping is the cat saying “OMG favorite person, I lurrrrrrrrrrrrrve you.” Most cats will do it JUST for their #1 person and not everytime they see the person. It’s like they sometimes are just overwhelmed with affection and can’t stand it.
