My Anne Kursinski Experience

My Thoroughbred is a figment of my imagination? What have I been throwing my leg over the last 2 years?

Denali’s barnmates and trainer don’t have the heart to tell her she is riding a hobby horse

That has got to be the most ridiculous post I’ve read in a while. Then again in your eyes I probably don’t rate with my OTTB and my 17 year old saddle made in England.

I’m not sure what saddles have to do with anything relevant to what I was talking about. She never once pushed any saddle brand or anything. I have watched those riders and all 3 of them change their style depending on what horse they are riding, but all the basics are the same. So I guess maybe I don’t understand what about her riding you are saying is outdated… Maybe understanding that will help me understand better. All I know is the way she breaks it down makes sense to me and the clinic was less then 2 hours from me so to me, being on a green horse with no real trainer, it was well worth it.

My my saddle is just as old! I’m on an APHA that is 1/4 Tb so there’s that. Lol

and how many warmbloods did Eros and Anne continue to beat into the early 2000’s? I mean, the horse stayed sound and game from the earl 1990s through 2004/2005. A horse’s breed has little to do with anything

I would ignore what that poster is saying. They are clearly very young and talking out of their… well you know. So long as you learned something and it was a positive experience that is all that matters.

Anne is someone I have always wanted to clinic with. Since taking a break from riding and starting again two years ago, I realize the “old school” training I got as a junior has made me a pretty decent rider even after taking some years off.

ETA: That picture you posted is clearly photo shopped:lol:. In all seriousness it is a very nice picture. I love your horse.

Ignore anyone who tells you the way you ride is dependent on the saddle you sit in. What stupidity. As long as it fits you and the horse, it doesn’t matter if it’s flat and french, flat and english, flat and cheap or big puffy couch of a saddle.

As for the horse, a good horse is a good horse, no matter the breed…and the fundamentals of riding them is the same.

Stop it! There is no room for facts. To say nothing of Eros’ legs… I remember watching Anne at the National Horse Show at MSG I want to say she was on Eros but don’t quote me. She lost her stirrups and I remember thinking damn, thats impressive. She just kept jumping without them. I want to say I was 11 or 12 at the time. So 20 some odd years ago.

Thank you! I bred his dam for an awesome barrel prospect and ended up with a gelding who hates barrels but loves to jump! He’s pretty bored with the 2’-2’6" fences but he can just get over it till I’m ready to go bigger. Lmao. On the backside of the jump in that picture I lost my right stirrup and became horribly unbalanced from his over zealous launch but managed to make it over the next fence in the line and continue on my course. Lol. Gotta love his enthusiasm!

My way of thinking exactly!

She does that in her clinics as well! Tons of no stirrup work, including over jumps if the riders are advanced enough. My no stirrup privileges were revoked because of my geldings antics. It wasn’t a pretty sight! Yet she stayed positive and encouraging when she seriously had every reason to belittle me and tear me a new one!

You are certainly welcome to your opinion, but good riding is good riding. Classic may be a better term than passé. I happen to like Hermès and thoroughbreds myself. But things always come and go.

I think my mare would be the same way if I dropped my stirrups. I haven’t tried since the last time I dropped them with her when I was cooling her out. It resulted in me having two knee surgeries to rebuild my left knee. Right now I am too much of a chicken to drop my stirrups with her.

I answered my question- Yes Anne did take part in this, sure a bunch of Hermes’ riding TBs. LAST YEAR. hardly outdated sheesh, if you are going to make something up, at least get your facts right ! [h=3]USEF 2017 GHM Clinic

Can’t say I blame you there! Ace was just being a royal tool. Bucking every single time I asked for a canter transition and when dropping stirrups he took the opportunity to see if it was possible to bounce me off. Since then he’s been checked out and we’ve been doing attitude boot camp. On the plus side my balance has come a long way!

To what “methods” are you referring? Working to keep the horse in front of your leg? Demonstrating an independent hand as learned through, perhaps, practicing a driving rein? An automatic release when situationally appropriate? Developing a solid leg through consistent work without stirrups?

Sorry— this is the moment at which your perhaps valid tale of personal clinic experience jumped the shark. As if one’s selection of French (or other) saddle brands, past or present, somehow determines their relevance or the impact of their training and riding chops on today’s top riders. The notion that someone can’t effectively coach a rider on a warmblood because she famously rode a top level thoroughbred is ludicrous. It didn’t work for you, and that’s fine.

Would pay good money to watch you walk up to Anne and say to her face that she is so obsolete.

Also if you want to call out other riders, at least spell each of their names correctly. Makes you look ignorant.

Lol, I’m naming my next “thoroubred” “Mclain’s Ward”. And will proudly ride him in an Hermes saddle. :stuck_out_tongue:

OP - glad you had a good experience!

no you have to spell it like she did:

McClain’s Ward

It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think???

Care to post photos of your riding there, Barney? How old are you anyways?

“Modern” in dressage usually means Rollkur, it’s disgusting, so maybe my reaction is colored by that. who knows.

Glad OP had a good experience! this thread certinally is getting the looks
