Looks like a Friesian Cross- but is a Canadian Horse…! What is that and where did it come from? Was not aware of the breed and how it came to be…care to explain?
nice horse…what do you want to do with him?
I love canadian horses. They are not a well known breed (even in canada!) but they are very smart, athletic, even tempered horses that excel in a lot of different disciplines. There are not a ton of breeders of them so they are fairly rare.
They were used in colonial Canada to basically settle the country. They were then cross bred so frequently that they almost got rid of all the purebreds. There are still some purebred lines, but many have now had other breeds infused into them.
They tend to be on the smaller side height wise, but stocky/sturdy so can take taller/bigger riders. I have seen some that get up to average horse height (16 hh range) but the more traditional are small horses ranging from 14-15 hands size.
They tend to be black or very dark bay, but they do come in chestnut as well a few other colors.
There is a book written by a man who bought a young one as his first horse and the book is all about him learning about horses through this one horse as well as a lot of breed history. I think its called “The Iron Horse” or something like that? I could be wrong, i don’t have it with me here at college and can’t remember the title for sure. But its a good quick read.
I love your guy in the photos, he looks very playful and cute!
very beautiful. looks very morgan’y and yet a little draft’y, but without loosing his fine features. He looks like a thinker.
He’s cute.
Morgany drafty is a pretty good description of the breed although there is a theory, please note I said theory, that Figure was a Cheval Canadien.
I mean, he had to come from somewhere, right?
I have two Canadians - LOVE THEM!
Patriote - showed 2nd level last year…

Where did you get yours/what’s his breeding??
He is so very handsome and oh, doesn’t he know it too!!!
His coat look so soft and silky …
What a beautiful black beastie against the white white snow! He’s pretty, I love the way he’s built.
I am pretty sure it is a beautifull Canadian horse. Congrats ! He looks big…Do you know how high he will finish growing ?
What are you plans with him ?
I finish Reserve Champion with a gorgeous 4 yrs, in Intro dressage before he was sold.
So cute! He looks like such a sweet boy! I really like your website for him too!
LOL
I just checked out the website the OP has listed in their profile. Clicked on the “Canadian Horse” link… The picture is of me and Patriote - me minus a head, but it’s not my best feature anyway Too funny.
Sabovee,
