My beautiful mare that started the "OMGiH, I loff my Mare" Clique (pg 6)

Well Tiffany, anyone can tell you love Beautiful, she is always just gleaming in the photos, even in the winter time. She looked lovely in the photo’s at the fair too. I just love me a good mare, so much in fact that I TRIED to own geldings, really I did. I adopted one and got another, neither did it for me like my mares do. One was sold and is doing well, the other is leased. Only geldings I’ve owned in forty one years…lol.

Right now I have all mares…let’s see: Tyranna the TWH mare - she’s a princess and knows it. The wee pony Bonnie, a Queen in the making. Pumpkin - the mule, a granny doing her thing. Molly - what can you say about a big butted woman? She makes mine look small - and is good Belgian to boot! Girlie - typical 8 year old, comparable to a 20’s something female, thinks she can do anything and tries hard, but sometimes falls on her face, but is sweet and willing and will go far in the hunters if allowed.

And RIP Aloha, the great grandma of my farm, now laid to rest, you put that bossy little Bonnie in her place, taught Aloha that Princesses can be dethroned and loved every single little girl and boy who came to brush and pet you. I miss that old gal.

Mares can be the most aggravating animals on earth, then turn right around and give you whuffies and will tote your sorry butt further without question once they know you are determined to go. Never underestimate a mare.

Nothing like a good Old Thread Resurrection![/QUOTE]

You know Penny has you wrapped around her hoof…lol…good resurrection of an old thread, I missed it first time around and all I have are mares…what a good, gossipy bunch of ladies I have. I can see them in ten years, in their “knitting circle” talking about “those other mares”, you know, the ones that didn’t quite make the cut to get to live here, the ones that were always teasing the stallions and making the geldings think they were quite the studs…lol…

Gotta love the opinions of mares, they rarely leave you wondering what they are thinking.

May I join please?

I’m glad this thread has been revisited because it gives me a chance to talk about MY mare! And it also gives me the opportunity to talk about other mares I’ve known and loved. Indulge me while I lay the groundwork.

My daughter’s first horse was an OTTB, a 3 y.o. highly opinionated filly who was big and black and beautiful and, let me assure you, she was a tough cookie. DD was 13 y.o. at the time, an accomplished and talented rider, and she was determined to get this gal where she wanted her to go. We were pretty much greenhorns at the time, but spent many quality hours together every single day in our mutual endeavor to create a diamond in the rough.

She’s an old gal now and has produced two foals, one of whom is my 7 y.o. gelding who had an okay racing career and is now being considered as an eventer. The other is a warmblood cross who has kicked butt in every breed show he’s been entered in.

My current mare is a 7 y.o. by Caller I.D. (Phone Trick) who produced my yearling filly. Mama and baby are carbon copies, which is a good thing because mare is just a lovely, lovely specimen. Big, correct, classy, smart and just doesn’t do anything wrong. Ever. (knocking wood) She’s the horse I let the little ones groom and love on because she is so sensible and kind. She’s very obvious about her desires when she’s in heat but never bitchy about it. She’s just…needy.

Current mare is for sale but there is such a stigma about mares in the show ring. I don’t get it. She’s got the size, the looks, the personality, the potential, but that four-letter word just seems to scare potential buyers away. Are there NO successful mares in competitive disciplines outside of racing??

I get crazed when I think about potential buyers who will not consider a mare for anything other than breeding, which is another bailiwick that makes my brain cramp.

So, yeah, here’s to the mares in our lives!

Holy thread resurrection, Batman.

What fun.

Since the start of this in 2005, I have two lovely ladies who went from wee fillies to mares of my heart — Wolkenstanza and Dominique. It s so wonderful to watch them grow up and become divas.:winkgrin::smiley:

Wow. I joined the clique and I didnt even know (will have to edit my siggy since there is indeed such a clique).

I do love my mare SO much. Shes wonderful and perfect in every way - even with her quirks.

I’ll gladly join this one. I loff, and adore my mare. She can be the biggest PITA, will never be good for trail riding or hacking out in the pasture, she can push my buttons at times. She has taught me patience, to be a little more humble, and what a good ride feels like. She is my forever girl

May I be Bonked as well? my mare is the love of my life!!

Oh my goodness. It has come back …

Well, here’s a bonk for you, Parker Rider, albeit 4 years late

The latest with my gawgeous mare is she stop when I’m turning her out and won’t move forward any more until I groom her butt. What a prima donna!!!

I still loff, loff, loff, loff my mares.

Good to see ya O’Mom!

Oh my goodness.

Someone forwarded this to me…

The wonderful mare that started this thread is now… 17? She’s a pasture ornament, but her son, is a beaut.

ChocoMare… are you still around?

Sooo… I am not sure if Reg Corkum is active on the boards, (he was mentioned a few pages back,) but it appears that his mare would definitely qualify for this thread!

I won’t post a link because there is a fundraiser and it’s not a registered non-profit – I just saw that she is recovering from a very bad injury.

A little googling should lead you to the info if you are so inclined.
