My Mare

I’ll join too! I loff my mare! She is just so smart and gentle and beautiful. Gotta love the mares.
Here is my girl: Cashew

Hey Oldenburg Mom, can you “bonk” me please???
I have recently seen the light…and have become the proud carrot feeding machine to an 8 year old TB mare. I used to be a gelding snob, but I wouldnt trade my girlie girl for anything… And I sure enjoy dressing her up in all things frilly, and although she complains loudy ,I know she enjoys it too!

I was so very lucky to have my girl in my life. She had an early retirement and is now “with child”. Mares have a very special place-if you bond with them they will never let you down. When I can afford another it will be impossible not to constantly compare them to her-she was irreplaceable.

Me too! Mare convert…

I’m a fairly recent convert – never liked mares, I thought, though quite honestly, was never exposed to many and did quite like the few I did know. In retrospect, was just carrying on baggage from my trainer (who now has two mares she quite likes, and, by the way, introduced me to the wonderful mare I now own.)

When my old trainer introduced me to the concept of leasing this mare, she told me that the horse was not “mare-ish”. Which in many ways, she isn’t. I barely know she’s in heat since she’s not very demonstrative. She does get ouchy, so we take it easy then and i give her massages.

She is opinionated, but willing. She’ll attempt pretty much anything I ask providing I ask her nicely and with respect. She’s extremely loving, but only if she’s decided she likes you. She’s a rock with my kids, treats them like her foals. She’s saved my life and quite frankly, even without that, she’d have had a home with me for life anyway. She’s just that special, and I consider myself blessed for having the opportunity to care for her.

And somehow I found myself hosting my old trainer’s pony mare for summer camp for my kids, so am now, for the moment, the proud mom of two very special, unique, and opinionated girls. I have to say that one of the best feelings i get all day is when I walk into the barn and my girls have their heads out and are yelling for me. Of course I know it’s because they want treats, but still, it’s awesome!:)

I wanna join the omg I loff my mare.

I loff my mare cuz she tried so hard at the fair for me last week.
