My C.Quito foal, Color?

Born yesterday! I am so tickled and I love my sweet mare, poor baby.

I have never had the possibility of a grey horse, and yesterday (based on everything I’ve read here) I pretty much thought he was going to stay bay, due to his legs and all. But today, I SWEAR the backs of his ears look a little frosty! (I would love a grey).
I do not have a good photo of his ears that truly shows what they look like, so here are three photos in different light, what do you think?

I love him either way, very exciting!

Is C Quito a grey? Has to have a grey parent. You usually see evidence of grey around the eyes, muzzle, ears and where they begin shedding first. I love greys and have seen it develop, but some babies will fool you and you think they will stay a color since they don’t express it much at first, but then grey slowly. Hope you get the color you want – beautiful foal regardless!

Thank you Penny!

Yes, he is a grey. I know the legs are usually dark when born for greys, so I guess I’ll just keep checking for little white hairs, just in case.

I’d take a stab at him staying bay. Have you a pic of his eyes? The grey flecks usually start around the eyes first.

I’m going with bay. We have bred one mare to a gray stallion and gotten both. The foal that stayed bay was born like yours with silvery legs minimal dark points. The colt that grayed was born the same color as the filly but his legs and points were very black !

I think its much the same in blacks , true black foals are born silvery or frosty , those that gray are born very black.

I don’ t care what color  congratulations !! I love C Quito! Had pleasure of seeing him at Thermal and what a nice team he has around him! What is his name?

Thank you! 3Dogs, I don’t know yet, and it’s killing me. Nothing has sounded right! Jessie is a good friend so this has been so much fun. I am looking forward to them coming to Kentucky to the Derby finals in August!

Here is a picture of the ear that made me go ‘hmmm’… this morning, I just don’t remember seeing any pattern on my bay colt out of this mare…

Staying bay

He’s foal-bay color, which means the washed out lower legs. If he were going to gray out, he’d have black or nearly black legs.

It’s just very very rare that a foal this color would gray out.

gorgeous regardless

C Quito is a really lovely stallion… what is mums bloodlines?

Echo everyone who has said he’ll stay bay. He’s baby coloured: blonde legs and blonde highlights. Those generally don’t grey out. He’s lovely, congratulations

Very cool! Congrats on your foal!

I am pondering the same question about my Parco filly, she’s bay, I cant find any white hairs in the standard places. Her legs are not very dark, so maybe I lucked out and she wont go gray??

JB, can you consult your crystal ball for me too?
swing by my facebook page and check her out. LOL

The Parco filly? Pretty sure brown  Not a dark seal brown, but still brown, like her dam

Nothing to add on the color, but Congrats!! Hattie is in foal to C. Quito for a February '13 foal and I’m so excited.

Beautiful baby D, congratulations!
I am going with the Stay Bay crowd on this one too.

keep us posted!

Thanks you all so much!

Hattie, congratulations, I do love that guy!
