I took her to the vet and had her put down. I had known it was coming and the well-known COTH mantra has been playing over and over in my head, about the last gift we can give a beloved animal: “Better a week too early than a day too late.”
My kitty was 20, going on 21. We took a nap this afternoon and she woke me up doing this arched-back stretch with all four legs quivering, and she gave a very deep pitched meow/growl that she has never done before. I had been telling myself to suck it up and take her to the vet to be put down before some emergency occurred. After whatever it was happened this afternoon she seemed fine but I did not want that to happen again to her. So I took her in and our vet has known that she might be ready to go anytime now. They are wonderful vets. and now she is gone and she can’t have any more emergencies, or pain, or arthritis, or stress. but we were together for 19 1/2 years.
