My cats have carried in a bird and it is loose!

I was on the phone and I heard this awful sound… The bird then flew past my head into the front window. It is a fairly good sized woodpecker. The normally very sleepy unmotivated cats are on fire stalking the poor thing. He flew into the window, I tride to catch him, no luck. He slid to the floor, and went behind the giant bookcase, and when I moved it, of course he went out the other side with the cats lurking. Now, he seems to have disappeared. I did open the window, fortunately it is in the 40s today and not like last week.

Hope Woody makes good his escape :crossed_fingers:
But expect your cats to be miffed you made this happen :pouting_cat::scream_cat:

Many years ago, my In/Out cat brought me a live sparrow.
I was lying on my couch & his muffled “mmrrroww” (mouthful of bird) made me look.
At which he released his catch & we both chased it around until it found Out through an open door.
I swear cat thought less of me for effing up the chance he’d given me to kill the catch.
Never brought me another living trophy :crying_cat_face:

the worst thing is that the bird has disappeared. The cats are calming down but still a bit hinky. The do this occasionally do this in the spring. The last couple of years they have fortunately been to lazy to chase the birds. I have no idea how this happened. this was a big bird for the cats to tackle. When I first got Dickens, he cleared out all the moles in the front yard that had been bothering me for 40 years. Last couple of years, the moles have come back and the cats are not interested. Sigh.

Ugh…you may have to use your cats as your radar to find where “Woody” has gone and hidden.
Nothing worse than loose wild animal in house and not knowing where it is hiding. But overall, I guess I would rather have a bird than a snake. Or a mouse.

Is it still light outdoors or can you put a light out there? Lock up your cats in the bathroom and turn off all the lights in the house. Hopefully it will fly to the light source and freedom. This is how I get birds out of the feedroom when they are dumb enough to fly in there and get stuck. They will fly to the light source.
