My Dansko days are over....

What do you like as barn shoes? For years, I have retired my no longer town approproate Danskos (professionals/ closed back style) to muck shoes. Loose ankles are telling me this isn’t going to work anymore.

Criteria:
Slip on
Prefer leather (have the short muck boots, but they are too hot this time of year)
Low/flat stable sole
Prefer low top-true slip on rather than Blundstone

Ideas?

I wear these day in and day out. I’ve worn them with jeans and chinos in Europe. Hands down they last. The style changes a bit occasionally;but, after my Sketchers Go Walks (I don’t think they are safe to wear around horses.) these are the next best thing: http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-all-weather-mocs/id_271000

I just got these Sloggers, and I love them at the barn! They are not leather, but they have so many cute colors.

They come in whole sizes. Usually I wear size 8 1/2 and the size 9 Sloggers fit me perfectly.

Merrell Jungle Mocs all the way.

well, I was going to suggest Blundstone, cause I love those, but you shot that one down before it even left the gate…LOL…BUT, I picked up a pair of Born, styled like the Blundstone, but less tight in the ankle, so they truly are slip on…I like the taller style rather than short slip ons because I always manage to get muck in my shoes, no matter how careful I am. Also, the Bean’s gum shoes are low cut, slip on…use them for barn/garden work and wet weather

LL Bean’s suede slip on mocs like the Merrells are really good too. They were my go to when I was grooming and didn’t want something hot and rubber to stand in all day. My current pair is about six years old, but don’t get as much barn use anymore. I got a pair of Blunnies and I’m enjoying not getting as much crud kicked into my shoes.

If your only objection to Blundstones is the high back, have you considered their low-cut model, which is very similar to the Merrell and Lands End “mocs” styles?

Redback, which is still made in Australia and is very similar to Blundstone, has a similar model:

If you’re really into Dansko, though, consider looking at some of their other shoes. I have very slim ankles, and the professional clogs don’t fit me because of the loose ankles. But I wear Danskos almost exclusively when I teach, and styles like the Edie and Celeste work well for me. Dansko has also introduced a Narrow Pro variant on its Professional line, but I haven’t tried those.

Sanitas! They used to manufacture Danskos, and have tons of styles.

Look on www.clogoutlet.com for some good sales.

There are some boots similar to dansko’s old paddock boot by Sanita on ebay… Very similar? I’m still wearing my 10 year old dansko paddock boots and they’re on their last legs (same with half chaps, but just scored a barely used pair!)

I bought a pair of Sanita paddock boots, and swear they are like the old Danskos.

Thanks – might just have to order a pair!

I want the chicken shoes!

Some good recommendations. While I love the Dansko sandals for non barn use I can’t for the life of me wear the clogs without trying to break an ankle.

If you’re an ankle roller, then beware of the Sanitas. They are very much like Danskos, but they have a slimmer ankle and heel. On the pro side, that means the ankle is slimmer overall. But I wasn’t willing to trade a better fit around my ankle for higher odds of spraining my ankle. (!)

I like to get shoes from West Marine which are set up for wearing on a sail boat - because they can be completely wetted down and you can just walk around in them. Like Merrills, they are rubber soled, stretchy/comfy and you can just hose them and yourself down without taking them off. Doesn’t matter how much bedding you get in them, just hose them off, feet in or out.

Docksiders, same kinda thing.

Here are some links:

These are all slip ons, the ties are elastic, easy peasy. http://www.merrell.com/US/en/womens-slip-on-shoes/ Not high, very stable soles, you will never slip, you can stand on things and they are grippy, climg ladders, stand on a wet cement slab with water everywhere, really nice.

From West Marine:

Clarks Muckers - they come in both ankle (zip) and low slip-on versions. I love mine, as I have ouchy feet, and these are very cushy and supportive. (P.S. I got mine new on ebay for a third of the regular cost.)

Dansko makes a very expensive Celeste that is similar to the sport clogs they used to make. Only barn problem is that, while waterproof, they are nubuck leather.

Thanks guys - great ideas!

I love my sloggers!
