My dog and my new boyfriend have the same name...

So I got my dog in August and named him Bo. It works for him. Anyway, I’ve been dating a guy for a few months now who goes by Beau (always has since birth). He met my dog for the first time this past weekend which was quite funny, because everytime I would call my dog, Beau would respond.

What are the odds that I’d date a guy with that name? Lol

His dad says they can share the dog house when they are both in trouble.

that is too cute!

My horses are named Hannah and Robbie. One of the girls at the barn is named Hannah and her brother is named Rob. Hannah the horse is new and came with the name and I didn’t even know the family when I named Robbie! Very weird.

I have a friend who has a horse and a husband named Casey. She had the horse first.

It’s part of the reason I’m not a fan of people names for animals… As a kid the neighbor’s dog had my name it annoyed me severely.

We had a handyman named George for awhile…same name as our Basset. I had to quit yelling “George!!! Shadduppp!!!” when he would start baying. George is named after my dad, who loved to nap, as does George the Basset.

My first horse was named John (from race name Intrepid John) and before I got him he was ridden by my trainer’s daughter… who later ended up marrying a wonderful guy named John.

My Big Black Dog and I both have the same name. He came with the name, and I didn’t see any reason to change it.
We do spell them differently, though - he’s Joe, I’m Jo - it’s how we keep our mail straight…

We had 2 horses named Queen once. Queen #1 turned into Queenie. Queen #2 , I went and looked at fell in love, had to have , made the deal, Then said by the way whats her name? When the seller said Queen, I was like your kidding. Oh well both great horses at any rate.

I feel sheepish when I meet people with the same name as my dog/s. OP or others, you ever feel guilty or shameful? Does the human get offended? I don’t think I could ever date a guy with my pets’ names. I once had dined with a guy who shared my name. Attractive, educated, traveled, well to do. Sigh. Too weird.

I have a Joey and a Timber. Joe and Tim for short. My mom’s husband is Tim. Tim(ber) now responds to Tim. Never my intent.*

I called Tim-the-dog in from mom’s backyard while the neighbor happened to be outside. She exclaimed disgustedly, “You’re kidding! Why’d you name him Tim?” Uh. Um. “I didn’t! It’s short for Timber.”

My name is now a popular dog name. And it’s a horse breed; I was intentionally named after it.

*I try not to say the dogs’ names unless I want their attention. Even have some people trained the same.

I took my JRT to watch the weenie dog races the local shelter was putting on and some woman started speaking harshly, using my dog’s name, Tanner (it was on his collar). Turns out whe was speaking to her toddler…lol. I was just about to ask what her problem was when I realized it.

I have a good friend whose cat and horse are both named Charlie. They both came with the name, and she felt bad changing it since they knew their names. So now she has “Little Charlie” and “Big Charlie”. Too cute.

My dog’s name is Darcy, and my brother’s gf during high school was Darby… Needless to say that caused some confusion.

Although, I told him from the start that Darcy was there first, and she’d be there longer. Needless to say, I was right!

I dated a guy who shared the same name as my brother at the same time my brother was dating a girl who had the same name as me. Weird all around.

A girl I grew up riding with had the same name as a palomino pony at the barn, and then bought a horse with a name more commonly given to people than her own name was. I think they got their show entries confused a time or two (‘Horse Lastname’ riding ‘Girl’s name’)

I’m another of the camp that doesn’t like to use “people names” on pets, or at least not common ones. I’ll name foster dogs those names, but the most human - sounding dog I own is Sierra. (the least is either Yolo or Scuba). I just feel weird hearing or saying, for example, “Jessica pooped in the living room again…”

But the real question remains… Does Bo approve of Beau? Tis most important, dontcha know!

This was the SO and I! We had Samson (Sam) the Percheron, then took in Sam the hinny. As the incumbent, Samson remained “Sam” and Sam-the-Hinny became “Little Sam.”

My surname is Bailey. About 5 years ago my parents moved, and were taken aback one evening while sitting on their patio to hear a neighbor yelling “Gawdammit Bailey! Shut up already!”

It took them several minutes, during which my Dad grew increasingly angry, to realize neighbor was yelling at his Beagle. We’ve all been startled at least once to hear someone yelling our name when outside at their new house. I also found myself mounted on a horse named Bailey when on riding vacation in Ireland.

A former landlady of mine seemed to have an unofficial rule that she have at least two animals named Ginger at all times. Dog, cat, horse, bird, you name it, she had at least two Ginger’s.
