My dog gave me a concussion today.

who’d a thought you would get a concussion leaning down to pat a cat - but then again you don’t think a 150 lb great dane is going to run at you full blast and smash his skull into the side of your head - oh the headache I have and the goose egg on the side.

I think he felt pretty bad after I yelled at him though - I know it was an accident.

Ouch!

Had something similar happen. Bent over to tie my shoe and my dog jumped up at the same time to lick my face. At that moment her collar was shifted to where her ID tag was on the back of her neck. The ID tag sliced my eyebrow open about 2 inches. Blood EVERYWHERE and needed stitches. Walked around with a black eye and a nasty slice for 1-2 weeks.

Ow! I feel your pain. I have a block-head Chessie - her head is like a cement block. She has gotten me a few times, but never a concussion.

She did break my ring finger - nasty double break. I was giving her a bath and she yanked on the leash to swing around and lick me and jerked my hand. Unfortunately the first doctor did not set it well and I could not make a fist (or close the finger over my reins which was MUCH more important). Had to have it re-broken (THAT was fun), and it healed ok, but has some arthritis and is crooked.

Hope you feel better and your big dog is more careful!

Ouch!

One time, when we were in the yard playing football with my dad when I was a kid, one of our Siberian Huskies decided to join in. He tackled dad and cracked 2 ribs in the process. He REALLY wanted the ball…lol.

Oh man - isn’t it amazing what dogs can do to you “accidentally”?

Years ago we picked up a stray 100+ lb. white shepherd & ended up keeping him. One day while playing with him out in the yard, hubby threw his Kong toy & I turned to see where it would land. Dog slammed into me at the speed of light, right behind the knees, & I literally flew up into the air. Hubby said he could actually see the yard underneath & beyond me before I finally hit the ground. Talk about pain. I had problems both sitting & standing completely upright for months afterwards.

hey, my great dane did that to me once too! you know that pointy bump at the back of the dog’s head? well, I leaned over him for some reason and wham he hit that bump right into my eye. Not only did I black out briefly, and had a nice headache, I also got to sport a shiner.

MY 90 lb ridgeback female gave my husband a black eye this week. He was picking her up to have her sit in his lap on his recliner (??!!) , and she wriggled in such a way that her head made contact with his. The funnier part about it is that two days earlier he got a black eye playing hockey when someone hit him with a stick, so now he has a matched pair. The spousal abuse jokes abound in my house right now.

My 15ish lb terrier gave me a concussion once. He wanted to come up on my bed, where he always sleeps, and I didn’t want to get out. I leaned over to pick him up, he jumped, and we bonked heads. I think the poor dog was concussed too… he kind of had some problems walking in a straight line for a day or so…

After I’d had surgery to correct a deviated septum and some other sinus issues, my dog picked her head up right into my nose as I was putting her dish on the ground. That was pretty terrible. Had to go back in for ANOTHER surgery to correct that…

When I was in college, I broke my finger hitting my cat. Now, lest you think I am cruel AND over-forceful… here’s the story.

I had made an extra sandwich at dinner because I had to pull an all-nighter. It was on my bed and I was sitting on the floor with my back up against the bed. Out of the corner of my eye I saw kitty on the bed, backing away with the meat out of the sandwich. I swatted in his direction and must have gotten just the right (wrong?!) motion, like cracking a whip but the whip was my arm. I connected with NOTHING, not the cat, not the bed, NOTHING, just air, and felt something snap. A nice spiral fracture of my finger, from… air.

My sister was concussed by her horse’s head (he was swinging for a fly) but I’m sure that’s more common than these dog injuries – I’m surprised at the number of stories! Hope the OP’s head feels better soon.

I think this is a trait of Danes. It is in their DNA to whip their head up for petting when they sense you are bent over near them

My guys have clocked me a few times too.

I bent down to greet my dog who head butted my lower jaw. Fixed my TMJ !

Add me to the “Knocked out by my dane” clique.

Bent over to do something in the yard… dog thought this was an excellent moment to acquire a case of the zoomies and zoomie he did, top of his giant skull right into my temple.

Down goes Rubyfree, coming to a few moments later to the dog standing above me with a toy and a mildly concerned expression.

Ohh…I should try this! LOL

Although my SO punched me in the jaw the other night in his sleep and that just made it worse…
