please does anybody have any advise? I was outside and i had a milk box and i was done and i was standing on the fence with my arms on the fence and my horse was there and i turned my back and next moment my horse had my straw half in her mouth, i tried to pull it out but it was to late… she ate the straw! what do i do?
Nothing. She will probably be fine.
Be observant but it’s like that “this, too, shall pass.”

Several years ago my horse, while turned out in the arena, ate a plastic flower off of a jump. He was fine.
Most debris either passes uneventfully or just kinda hangs out forevermore. Plastic I expect to pass, the stuff that hangs around forever is typically heavy, like rocks and hardware nuts. RARELY, debris can be the nidus of an enterolith. But those can form around things like particularly stiff hay stems and twigs that don’t break down in the stomach, too. Eating one plastic drinking straw isn’t going to substantially up the risk beyond what a typical horse is going to swallow over a lifetime.
Most things usually pass. I once had a horse eat a McDonalds hamburger wrapper out of my daughter’s hand with the sticker and all. Called my vet in a panic, she laughed, said to observe her for a few days, and check the poop in the pasture. And if anything seemed off to give her a call. Found it 2 days later MOSTLY undigested in a large pile of manure in her pasture.
My horse ate a ziplock baggie with carrots in it.
Knew one that ate one of those darned plastic shopping bags. Passed on through and appeared in his manure several days later. keep an ey on her, but she’ll likely be fine.
ok, but i cant really keep a eye on her manure because she is in a paddock with 8 cows. she is an older horse too, so wondering if that will increase the chances of there being complications but I will check on her everyday and make sure she still has her personality.
