My hose hoist

My son helped me get a pulley installed under the eave of my barn roof so when I am done watering I can hoist the hose up by its middle and drain it this winter. It’s pretty flat where my barn sits, so it was always hard get that hose drained. Now only the last few feet of the hose are on the ground and there is enough grade for it to drain. I still need to install a cleat to have a place to tie off the rope. I also need to figure out a slightly larger radius support to hold the hose where it bends (I don’t want it to kink there or crack) and I’d like one that’s also not offensive to look at- for now I just used a little piece of PVC pipe.

(Sorry for non FB users- it’s not really an exciting picture anyway)

Brilliant!

Genius!

When I had to haul hoses to drain 'em, I flipped it over a beam in the pole barn and pulllllled! Your set up is so much easier

That’s what I had been doing up till now ChocoMare- a real PITA. Necessity is the mother of invention!

Great idea, thanks!

Need to incorporate that in our barn.
It gets old to “walk” the hoses every time they need draining.

My ‘barn’ and area is very tiny…but for those of you who have the same scenario, I will add: what I did is at my ‘frost free hydrant’ in the barn, I ran my hose ‘up’ the side of the door frame and down, and have a ‘hoop’ that way…anyway, what you did is exactly on a ‘small scale’ what I did!

I am fortunate to be able to say “used to haul hoses” cuz this year the farm manager ran electric out to the hydrant & tub so we can use the sinking de-icer. We only use a short piece of hose to fill the tub, that then hangs there and drains. No more pulling 200 feet of hose up every night!
