My MIPS helmet story

I agree, TV doesn’t do a great job of explaining the different liners - even in the product descriptions. I found it here:
https://traumavoid.com/blog/The-Showdown-EQ3-vs-Lynx.html

That link helped, mine must have been the EQ, may try the Lynx.

My last Troxel needs replacing, is old.

I’ll report back on how my EQ3 fits when it arrives next week,

LetItBe

I tried it on twice to no avail until I figured out the liner and sizing combo I needed - ended up needing the other liner and I had to go up two sizes from my OneK size, but once I figured it out, it fits like a glove and is so comfortable. I did find it feels like it sits slightly higher off my head than my OneK did, but it’s an illusion because it’s snug against the top my head, just a different helmet. Maybe because of the MIPS liner + the helmet top combo? The chin strap does also sit further forward IMO, but not enough that it bothers or concerns me. The strap is REALLY long though! I had to tighten and tighten and tighten to get it to where it didn’t feel like it would slide off my chin.

I just have a brown one for schooling (my schooling boots are brown), but I want a black one for showing too!

I took a nasty, hard fall in my Trauma Void Lynx about a month ago. Point of impact was the left side of my head and jaw. I broke two molars clear through. My cat scan and tests were all clean, although I’m still missing a few minutes of that day, so I’m sure I had a minor concussion. While I had a few dentist appointments in the following days to fix the teeth, my head felt great. Not a single headache.

For what it’s worth, the Eq3 is a terrible fit on me, but the Lynx is great.

I bought the Lynx. I didn’t like it and I normally prefer a dial fit. I sold it. I have a very tiny head/face and it totally overwhelmed my head. I tried on the Eq3 and that fits much better. I plan on buying one the next time I have some spare cash.

Charles Owen is making 3 versions of the MIPS helmet; I wonder when they’ll be available in the US? CO’s typically have fit my head better than other helmets.

It looks like both Smartpak and RidingWarehouse are selling them already, although there is quite a variation on stock/availability between specific sizes and models. RW has some in stock, some backordered a few weeks or more, SP lists them with delivery in 12 weeks.

They just arrived at our local farm stores a few weeks ago.

I bought a Trauma Void helmet last summer. Fortunately, I haven’t “tested it” by falling with it, so I am glad to hear that it worked well for you. I love the helmet, it is comfortable and really well ventilated. I am glad you are ok.

12 weeks on the Charles Owen at Smartpak at n my size and on backorder until September at RW, if the Trauma Void doesn’t fit I might go ahead and order one though I wish they had a velvet or microfiber version.

I just saw this and am surprised it hasn’t been more…advertised?

Charles Owen’s tend to fit my big ole Charlie Brown head; so I may be tempted to stray from my go-to AYR8.

I’ll be at the local tack shop on Friday and I’ll ask!

I have wanted to try the MS 1 Pro, but there is a 10 week order notification. I’m curious why the wait is so long too.

Defying Logic, sorry to hear of your fall !

I have been curious to hear the experiences of others with Trauma Void helmets. Thank you for sharing.

Where are they? What stores? I’ve been looking at them and plan to buy soon. Thanks.

in the PNW- most Wilco stores have them. PM me for more info if you want, I can check availability.

Smartpak just went from 12 weeks delivery to 2 weeks on the Charles Owens after I just chatted with them yesterday to confirm the 12 weeks:) Anyways ordered one so I’ll be able to compare the 2 different brands!

Glad you are OK DL. And thank you for starting this thread. I am way over due for a new helmet. Does anyone know which helmet has better ventilation? The TV or CO MIPS? Thank you!

I am leaning towards the TV because of the dial fit.

The Trauma Void does not fit my head. At all. Nobody said anything about two liners. I will call my tack shop and ask them about it.
The Lynx is not yet available here in Canada. Maybe in the fall.

I think Tipperary has a MIPS helmet now, too.

I got to try the regular CO MyPS when our rep came by a couple of weeks ago. It was a 7, my normal CO size, and it was horribly uncomfortable. The rep pointed out the helmet is very low profile, and the shape of the helmet forehead slopes back at a low-ish angle, where my forehead is fairly high. Another MIPS helmet that just is not the right shape for my noggin.
