“Don’t give them anything to argue about.” (Works on bosses too )
From Ray Hunt:
“Don’t go through something bad and try to make it come out good. Stop and start over.”
“Make the wrong thing difficult and the right thing easy.”
What happened before what you wanted to have happen, happened."
And my favorite:
“Take the time it takes.”

Ok, I almost wet my pants over this one, love it
I love the inspiriational and thoughtful ones but I always appreciate one that can make me laugh, one of my favorites from my trainer (when I first made the switch from hunters to dressage) “Ya, that looks good, now try to not be just a passenger and ride him!”
yes, the whore one is really funny! Some more funny ones:
How do you tell when a Dressage Queen is dead?
She’s still stiff as a board, but her horse looks happy.
How many Dressage Queens does it take to change a light bulb?
One. She holds the light bulb and the world revolves around her.
How many dressage riders does it take to change a light bulb?
Just one, but she’ll go through the entire box of light bulbs to find the one that fits the best.
And this one, I came up myself. Text: “I Do My Best Thinking Inside Of The Box!” and I made this artwork for it: http://www.cafepress.com/dressageart.300098447
“Never let a grazing animal make decisions for you.” - Richard Williams

Right now I am watching Reiner Klimke training a veryyyyy young Johan Hinneman.
The best quote so far from Reiner:
We first have to learn the horse to love it to learn.

Oooh. I would like to see that!
My faves
“Open the door”–WAZ
“Forward fixes everything”
“Let your legs hang like wet towels”
One that has always struck me is Alois Podhajsky’s motto “I have time.”
“‘I have time’ should be the guiding word especially of dressage riders during the entire course of training and remind him of the fact that the goal of the classical art of riding is to be attained only by the gradual increase of demands.” ~AP
It’s so obvious, but it’s so important. Patience may take longer, but the results will always be better.
“always give again”
ETA - Bort - that is one of my faves !
OK. I’ll bite on the dressage queen quotes…If you think that the words “flying change” mean that you’re going through menopause really fast, you just might be a dressage queen.
And on a more serious note ;)…Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, loudly proclaiming: WOW - WHAT A RIDE!:lol::lol:
I think that a lot of times, quotes hit nerves for us personally, based on situations we currently find ourselves in. hehe–Take note; those of you who really like the “shoulders like a princess…” quote.
I really like the “riding through the rain” quote a lot.
Another one that my lovely sports psychologist used to say to me is, “When you see the fire, ride TOWARD it.”
At a clinic Steffen Peters told a rider that “discipline is the bridge between dreams and accomplishment, it works for me.”
He also said there are three rules during every ride, “supple, supple, supple.”
He said a lot more worth quoting. I’m sure many of you who have audited or ridden with him could share a few.
You go…uhh…let’s go…girl!! …
Some dressage riders might need those hips not only for sitting extended trots … since:
“What do Dressage Queens use for contraceptives?
Their personalities.”
Wow, actual DQ jokes.:lol::lol: have never heard one before. I must divulge that I may be thinking “shoulders like a princess, hips like a whore” this weekend. If it works, use it!
Some more:
“Diamonds Are Cheaper”
“Dressage riders never die - they half-pass over”
I’m having a senior moment and don’t want to attribute this to the wrong trainer, but in a clinic, when asked by a rider when to start “dressage” training…
“Vel, you can schtart at tree and meebee you reach zee Grand Prix at 10, or you schtart at vive and meebee you reach zee Gran Prix at 10” <big grin>
same trainer to me----- “ZIT DOWN!!!”
Horse sense is what horses have that keeps them from betting on people.
