My Olympic "Victory"

Back in the early days of these Olympics I was talking with a nonhorsey friend about my disappointment in not being able to watch any of the three-day competitions on TV or my computer.
Friend asked me about the different equestrian competitions, and made a pretty good stab at pronouncing the word “dressage.” She has seen the “Royal Lipizzan Stallions” so we talked about that and about competitive dressage.
A couple of days later, I suggested she search youtube for “dressage,” “grand prix dressage” and one my favorites, “camel dressage.” As well as the NBC videos if she could access them.
The next time I saw her she thanked me so much for telling her about those videos. She told me how beautiful the horses were, and the dressage itself–and she loved the camel!
I told a horsey friend I felt I had won a “convert”!
It just was so wonderful to share something I love with someone and hear them tell me they were so glad I did, that they loved it.

That is great! You either have the bug or you don’t, but sometimes it manifests itself later in life. Maybe suggest riding lessons next.

Good suggestion, mayhew.

I have in the past invited her out to the barn where maybe we could have put her up on a horse … didn’t think of lessons, but that would be the best route for her if she’s interested.

Maybe once the weather cools off we will get her out there.
