Thanks to everyone who helped with my tons of questions over the past few months. I ended up getting a Crestridge saddle for Mac, as it turns out he needed a mule tree and in their XW measurement. It came last night and the quality of work looks wonderful. It is freezing cold here (by my standards) but I’ll muster up the courage to go out in a little bit and take it for a short spin. Fingers crossed that this is IT!
Keeping mine crossed for you too…I know my horse loves his mule tree.
I got to ride in it today! It was sent with the stirrups at jockey length so I had to first figure out how to lengthen the fenders because I had a Nevada twist put on and I don’t have any experience with blevins buckles and changing length with a twist in the leather. So after 10 minutes or so I got it figured out and had a ride. It is freezing here and my footing was hard and frozen and we cleared the pipes out so I couldn’t water and drag, which means we mostly just walked around and then went for a short trail ride. Mac seems to like the saddle - he stood quietly for saddling (if he doesn’t like a saddle, he’s very fidgety and/or trying to bite something) and when we went on our little trail ride, he was really forward going downhill (if he doesn’t like a saddle, he takes mincy steps down hills). We didn’t work up enough of a sweat to get a sweat pattern that I could read but I should be able to do a longer trail ride on Sunday so I can get that.
I got a 15.5" seat size which I think will be perfect - a 15 would be too small and I think with a 16 I’d have to scoot my butt back to sit in the sweet spot and then my legs would be in front of me a bit. My legs hang nicely on this seat. I also had them modify the twist in the seat to be more like a wide saddle (his is an extra-wide) and it is really comfortable. There’s just a perfect spot for me to sit.
So first impression is that I like it and he likes it! A longer trail ride this weekend and hopefully some arena work next week will give me a better idea. I need to get a new saddle pad, too.
So, yay!!!
Yahoo! I have really liked their saddles. Congratulations!
