I bought a Charles Owen that gave me headaches and then I bought a GPA Speed Air which I liked until I fell off 10 days ago. I didn’t land on my head but I tumbled and my helmet shifted up so the brim was pointing to the sky. It also generally had been feeling looser. Not good. So I tried some IRH helmets but they pinch me on the sides of my head so would likely cause headaches. I appreciate that the vendors want to pad the larger size to make them fit but that kind of makes me nervous. Shouldn’t I want one that just fits me? Suggestions? Should I go back to a different model of GPA or are there other brands for the almost round but not quite really round shape of my silly head? Thanks

All joking aside, I don’t really know if I’m a round or an oval, but I can’t wear a Charles Owen at all, the IRH was wonky, and a Samshield fit perfect. Give up on the brand and just try a lot of models until you’re certain. Just be comfortable and secure. I probably tried on 50 sizes and models before I found a fit. So frustrating but worth the search.
CO and IRH are for oval heads. GPA is for round heads, although there have been more oval models. Either try different GPAs or try a Samshield. Samshield tends to be a happy medium for a lot of people

Samshield all the way. I have a weirdly oval head I guess and I couldn’t get the CO off fast enough. I did GPA for a while but it wasn’t a great fit.
OneK air. Daughter tried every helmet and this was the only one that fit…you pump it up to fit irregular shaped heads…like the old Nike tennis shoes.
Hi, I was hard to fit and got headaches from most helmets. I bought a Uvex. it is adjustable around your head as well as in how high the helmet sits. I always found that helmets were sitting to low and this fixed that issue as well. http://www.uvex-sports.com/equestrian/riding-helmets/ . Mine is the perfexxion active but there are some with a more classic appearance.
I’m a fellow weird shaped head equestrian. The OneK helmets fit me great!
Samshield. I have the exact same problem, CO gives me a headache, GPA fit for a while, it still does but will shift and even fly off back when I fall. I’ve been wearing my sister’s samshield and it fits perfectly and has yet to fly off my head. I look like a mushroom but at least I’m safe.
Find a place with a large variety and keep trying until you find one that fits. That is my only option. Also, once I find one that fits I get THAT exact helmet - I have even had helmets that were the same make/model/size with slightly different fits.
Thank you all I will try on every helmet I can in Ocala this week and find my glass slipper. Perfect analogy for a hunter princess HuntCup.
I went to Dover and tried on all the helmets. Only CO and Samshield fit those of us with oval heads.
Try Samshield! COs don’t fit me AT ALL, IRH was okay, GPA better but the Samshield is perfect.
Another vote for trying one k’s. I have an IRH that fits perfectly but the Charles Owen and GPA does not fit at all.
I also have a weird shaped head like you. I would definitely try either OneK or Samshield. Those are the only two that I’ve ever tried on that fit me. They fit me the same, but the OneK is about 1/2 the price and better looking (IMO).
There are more factors besides the round/oval issue. Is your forehead high or low? Does your forehead go straight up or slant back? And don’t forget to take your helmet hairstyle into consideration. Huntcup nailed it, you’ve got to try a lot of helmets.

High forehead that goes straight up. I’ll definitely bring my hairnet to try them.
And my glass slipper was the GPA First Lady. Fit like a glove even though an eighth of an inch larger than my GPA Speed Air that I was replacing. Tried on IRH, Samshields, OneKs and even a few Charles Owens. No contest for my head. I guess I am a GPA girl. Thanks for everyone’s advice. $700 later

Didn’t even ask how much it was because I knew how much my GPA Speed Air was. Crazy prices. They did have $100 store credit today because it’s getting near the end of HITS so I got a new Wilkers hunter show pad and they gave me $50 off the helmet. Just under $700 for both things.
