Anyone had any foals from Nabab? A few questions:
What types of mares would he match up with as far as “type”? Since Darco would be one of his best crosses, I would assume heavier built mares would line up?
How was the semen? I notice it is 9 straws in a dose. Thank You!
I’ve had two foals by Nabab - one is now 6 and the other is 5. The dams were full sisters (HH Radco/Chin Chin/Carthago). Neither marr was heavy but there was substance. The offspring have size and substance but a super blood percentage. They are made for big jumps.
I used fresh semen, so I have no experience with his frozen but have heard it can be tricky.
To be more blunt, I’ve never heard of a frozen Nabab foal in North America.

Nabab was notoriously hard to breed to and his straws are notoriously bad as well. When he was alive, european breeders would quip that you only had a 10% chance of getting a pregnancy even with fresh at the farm. He’s been one I wanted to use for a very long time
It is my understanding there is 9 straws per dose now, The broker suggests there has been US pregnancies. Maybe it would be better to use ICSI, then likely even with two sessions maybe a foal and this would take the semen issue out of the mix.
I would not trust the broker. Many years ago there was a batch of 3 straw doses that produced a pregnancy in the US. With ICSI, you’d need to have the straws made into ICSI straws, probably at Texas A&M. Plus ICSI breedings are not cheap.
It might be easier to buy a Nabab in Europe, especially as it sounds like you’re also searching for a suitable mare.
