Name a luxury you can’t go without

And what are these two cuties’ names?

A feed area with hot water, heat and A/C.

Makes my feeding time easy peasy.

You are gonna laugh. I am not very creative with names. The grey is Donkey and the other one is Tiny Donkey (we call him Tiny D).

Yep, same, I LOVE taking care of my horses and know them inside and out, but sometimes it’s nice to just let go and trust that they’re in good hands that care about them as much as I do. Plus, I might have a return to regular office life eminent, so it seems like a decent trade-off in the big scheme of “having it all.”

:rofl::rofl: Thanks! I did need a laugh.

Horse related: A really good instructor. Also reliable truck and trailer to get to weekly lessons with this marvelous instructor, and anywhere else I need or want to go with my horse. Also the best vet and farrier I can find.

Not directly horse related: Hiring someone else to clean my house. I would rather do my own barn work and hire someone to clean the house than the other way around. Also, a robotic vacuum cleaner for in between.

Horse vacuum! I just started using one and I love using it during my grooming routine, it makes such a difference when they seem infinitely dusty. Also heat lamp/solariums are so nice to stand under and do bodywork when it’s really cold out

Ditto on the horse vac. I scored one secondhand and I think the rest of the barn believes I’m nuts, but you know: You hit an age when you say, “For the love of God, I can’t blow mud out of my nose anymore.”

Ooh, yes: I love my horse vacuum! It’s worth every ridiculous penny. My new guy is afraid of it, but he’s afraid of oh, everything, like buckets, and firmly believes the hose is a snake, so… :joy:

Was just telling someone that, after spending the bulk of my former riding life without hot water on the wash rack, it didn’t take long for me to get realllll used to that luxury.

if I can not go without “It” then that is a necessity not a luxury

the one thing that if I can avoid is plastic forks/knives/spoons with great hate of the all encompassing spork

My horse would say hot water is a necessity - it took me a whole summer to realized his dancing around in the wash stall would stop as soon as the water was warm (even if it was 90 degrees out).

I totally get where he’s coming from :joy:

I need to be you.

I’ve been trying to find ways to save my body - your example is exactly what I’m looking for - because despite me being able to do whatever right now, I know my back is one mistake away from being toast, and my knees are genetically screwed. I’m strong and stubborn, but I need to be less STUPID which is what some of my endeavors are at this point

(recent example - I loaded 8 bags of paver sand and 20 bags of limestone screenings into my truck bed by myself because I was too impatient to wait for the help. Bags were 50 pounds dry, and were soaking wet so 60+ pounds… DUMB.)

My own little luxuries:

-Dressing room in the trailer. I know this isn’t a huge luxury, but all my childhood we never had a dressing room. Any time you hauled anywhere, you had to load everything into the truck, then unload it when you got home. Now most of what I need just lives in the dressing room where there is more than enough storage.

-Paying for coaching at the show. This is a necessity for some people or programs, but for me, it’s always extra. When I was younger I used to roll my eyes at the old ladies who couldn’t show at even the lowest levels without their coach. But oh my gosh, now I am that old lady and it is totally worth it.

-Wahl KM10’s
-fleece lined leggings, gloves, and pullovers for winter
-haas brushes
-keeping a fresh pair of crochet back gloves & a clean helmet liner on hand
-custom padded halter
-when past me remembers to scotch guard whites & saddle pads at the end of show season so current me is ready to go in the spring

Can’t live without luxury?
-my trainer

Some of the Fager titanium bits (the horses told me NO for Fager’s tongue relief bits.) The horses have told me that titanium bits are a true necessity if I want good contact when my nervous system does not work as well as usual.

Haas brushes.

My Pegasus Butterfly saddle AND six pocket shimmable half-pads.

Stability leathers. Love.

Rider Grips–I stopped sliding around in the saddle to the horses’ relief.

MIPS helmet.

Far Infra-red fabrics and tack, for both the horses and for me BOT, Fenwick and Incrediwear, these help me and the horses SO MUCH.

Riding fly sheet. Oh, why weren’t you around 50 years ago?

See, I’m just not loving the Haas brushes I splurged on. They are too big for my tiny hands.

My list:
My trainer and her program.
A heated barn and indoor arena with a heated bathroom.
Nice riding clothes appropriate for the season.
My Bluetooth sunglasses. The bomb for lessons outdoors. No more earbuds!

Hey Jackie, have you tried the BOT full seat breeches? I love them. “Warm” in that BOT way without being warm-warm… I swear my muscles hurt less when I wear them.
