Name Ideas for Rescued Mare!

I’m taking in a neglected TB, but she has no name! So coming to you lovelies for some name ideas, barn and show.

About her:
9yo mare
Chestnut with one white stocking and a white snip
Taken as payment by a loan shark, who locked her in a stall for 4 months
Hestitant around people, but she wants to reach out still

About me:
Adult ammy
PhD candidate
Cellist
Science nerd
Ornithologist

I’m a fan of Latin phrases…
Tempus fugit (time flies)
Amor fati (love of fate)
Ad meliora (towards better things)
Folie a deux (madness shared by two)

Does she have a lip tattoo? If so then you can find out her registered name and go from there. I had a contest at the boarding barn to name Callie when I deciphered her lip tattoo and wasn’t pleased with her Jockey Club name.
TB mares are so smart. You will have fun.

No tattoo, unfortunately! I don’t think she is from the track. But the stall she was locked up in was at a standardbred race track

Also love the name Callie! Good choice.

Maybe she’s a standardbred???

You made me google birds.

What about Cassin, for a cassin’s finch? Call her cassie in the barn.

I’d name her Cello.
Standardbreds have lip tattoos also so I guess she didn’t race
i have friends whose real names are Lark and Avis both in Atlanta.
The cello is a difficult instrument to play! Lucky mare to get a talented owner. Kid who won in the name my mare contest got $20.

Your list is amazing!

A 9 year old standardbred would be likely to have a freezebrand. Lip tattoos are very uncommon in younger standardbreds.

Fun fact, as of last year, standardbreds are now microchipped rather than freezebranded.

Years of Latin in public school and then law…I’ve always liked Stare Decisis
or Lapin or Moi Aussi --French and Latin and German etc
hmm which German or Austrian composer liked the cello? I grew up on daily symphonic music. What was the duck’s name in Peter and the Wolf?

Jaquimo was the bird from Thumbelina

I vote for Lark!:D:D

Yoyo… for you know…

I love that you’re giving her a home! Congratulations on your new partner! (Team chestnut mare here. ) Based on her history, I love the idea of Ad meliora for her show name. You could call her Amelia, Elora, Addie, Mellie, etc. for her barn name.

Invenio Soccus (Found your sock in Latin)

Piaf for Edith Piaf the Little Nightingale
(tongue-in-cheek variation: Piaffe)

@cloudyandcallie Sasha was the duck in P&W
