Great with horses…terrible with naming things. Help! This farm will be located in central Iowa, and I’d really like the flavor of the name to be elegant or crisp rather than funny/cutesy. A two word name would be nice “xyxyxy farms,” but three words would be okay, too. Think: “this reads well on a fancy azz tack box on the rated H/J circuit” or “fancy hunter princesses would definitely like to buy their next imported sport horse from me” kind of name. Prints nice in script on a business card, ya know?
The property is currently just retired from being a foaling business for thoroughbreds, and I intend to do some layover/layup boarding, imports, and potentially - at some point - a bit of breeding if the market can support such a thing without being irresponsible.
Features of the property include shy of 20 acres, an old but beautiful house, an underground stream, little rolling hills, oak/maple/ash trees, bright beautiful green grass paddocks with wood fencing and grey barns, on the corner of two roads with dumb number names, very near Interstate 35. It’s near a marsh, a tiny town, and an unnamed wildlife preserve across the street. Typical Midwestern creatures are plentiful, and a pair of geese return each year. I didn’t see any berry/fruit/etc bushes or trees, but it is still a really cold April here.
I’d like to avoid words associated with other local barns because it is a rather small area and taking over a name would be weird: Stillwater, Pine Hollow, Irish Run, Valley Park, Maffitt Lake, Terra Gait, Jester Park, Copper Moon, Prairie Rose, Thunder’s Farm, Sunrise Stables, Hunter’s Glen, Canterbrooke (former), Stagecoach, Powder River Ranch, Walnut Hill, Phoenix EC, Quail Run, Catalpa Corner, Squirrel Hollow, Field Day…those are all off-limits, and close copies would be too confusing.
Creative types…help?
