Naming the un-nameable kitten. Creative minds needed!

Almost a week ago my family adopted/was given a 6 week (ish) old kitten who was in pretty rough shape, her previous caretaker found her completely emaciated in a garbage can :(. She has a forever, life-long home with us but the poor thing still doesn’t have a name! I feel terrible . We’ve tampered with a few but apparently we’re a tough crowd and haven’t really loved any of them. Consider it’s one we’ll have to live with for the next 20 years, we want it to be perfectly fitting for our lucky little lady.

Please no human names, only one or two syllables and nothing too generic or corny. We do like fairly clever, feminine, interesting names… tall order! Hopefully you all with have some better ideas than what we’ve come up with so far.

Of course pictures!

TIA! No-Name kitty thanks you too.

Smudge for the colors. Dory for Adorable. She is really cute! Most kitties that live with me end up with opposite names - Baby for the 20 pounder, Jr. for the very feminine Siamese mix - not sure how it happens. FC was perfect for the tiny feral cat - Feral Cat. Then she moved into the hearth and became Fireplace Cat. Now she is Friendly Cat. Keep adding pictures!

Oh, baby girl! A little calico!

How about naming her after a flower?

Anise
Aster
Bluebell
Calla
Clover
Cosmos
Dahlia
Daisy
Iris
Lily
Peony
Phlox
Tulip
Yarrow
Zinnia

I fail on all counts… I’d name her Oscar. (yep, I’d name a girl cat found in a garbage can Oscar… of course, I named a girl dog George. I picked her up off the freeway and named her based on the old cartoon… “Can I keep him? I’ll walk him and I’ll feed him and I’ll call him George.” before I looked to see what sex she was.)

Caramellow - mellow for short
Mocha

She’s totally adorable!

I think she looks like a Bella.

I thought I was the only one that did the George thing. Oscar is a cute idea too.

Her face is adorable! They’re hard to name for sure, especially when their personalities aren’t fully there yet. Smudge or S’mores works with her coloring.

My bestest beloved cat was an itty bitty foundling and a calico, and I couldn’t think what to name her. Told my Mom I couldn’t think of a good name but she couldn’t go by “kitty” for the rest of her days.

Mom’s answer?

“Call her Katie”

So I did  Best cat ever, my true heart-cat, and I still miss her though she’s been gone 8 yrs or more.

I am melting in a puddle from all that adorableness!!!

My family has a history of naming cats using foreign words for either cat, or some trait the cat had, and many were Russian/Croatian/Serbian words, which are really cool sounding. In that light, I looked up “hope” in Russian.

The whole word is nadeyat’sya, which is obviously too much, but I thought Nadeya was both feminine, different, interesting, and pretty to look at.

How about Jasmine? I just adopted 3 barn cats, one came named and two didn’t. We kept the name Tony, and I let my daughter (4) and son (3) name the female and male siblings. My daughter came up with Jasmine (she is very into Disney princesses) and my son came up with Captain America! I thought we would immediately be shortening that to Captain, but so far, he’s going by the full name. It still cracks me up every time I say it.

She’s a Halloween kitty! I vote Pumpkin.

Autumn

I’m not great at naming - I have Blue (blue point), Spots aka Da Magpie (tuxedo with loads of white), Tippy (black with a white tip on his tail) so no imagination at all and the closest I came to any imagination was with Zabbie which is a corruption of Where’s the baby. Someone mentioned Pumpkin and I agree because of the season, even if she does end up Punkin.

She’s adorable! She looks like a Caramel to me.

She looks just like my brother’s old cat

Her name was Bop Kitty. Because she would “bop” things she didn’t like.

My sister had a similar calico. Her name was Toast. Because she had an odd habit of sitting perched on her haunches like a squirrel, then “popping” up.
Like toast.

You could name her Miley, because you know, she’s trashy.

Our last cat was named Slinky because, well, she was like a slinky.

I’m a bad one to advise on names that would meet your preferences; I really like doofy human names. Our most recent kitty got named Travis. His brother ended up being named Anyong (Korean for “hello,” but named after the Arrested Development character), but for a while, he was Leon.

Nona (NO NAme)

I don’t know about “Smudge,” but it got me to thinking about:

Smidge

Maggie came to mind

As a calico girl, and since I…um…have one too, ;)you could just give up now and call her “Queen” or “Queenie.”

Thelma

Tessie

Sprite

Hey JB my daughter’s name is Nadja. Means “hope” in German. Interesting Russian spelling
