Does anyone know of someone in the US who carries this bit? I’ve looked at the usual suspects and am not getting anywhere. I want it for a clinic and have never ordered from the UK. Thanks!
They had one, but it’s discontinued! Thank you, though!
Bummer. I haven’t personally ordered from the UK, but I know of several people who have, including COTHers, so hopefully someone will chime in
I have ordered from the Horse Bit Bank. http://www.horsebitbank.com/cartwheel-swivel-111.dhtml They are awesome. Both times, the bits were delivered quickly, and even with shipping from the UK, the bits were still about ten dollars cheaper than dover. They are my go to when I need bits now…
Just be careful. The reason why Equusport has discontinued carrying many of the Nathe bits is because they can easily break without any notice! If you look on their web site, they have explained this. I know it to be true, because it happened to me, and it could have been an extremely dangerous situation. Equusport apparently tried to advise the manufacturer of this on a number of occasions without any response, and eventually stopped stocking the bits for that reason. I am not sure if the cartwheel bit is one of the problematic bits, but this is something you should check out before buying it.
Yikes. That would be bad. I am trying to bit a jumper that has a very soft mouth, but needs a little leverage. I like to ride her in a regular gag with one rein, which I snap directly to the bit when I jump. It just gives a tiny bit of leverage, but I am aware that it looks like a wacky set up. She just came off a lease at a big A barn and they kept her in the same setup. Maybe I should try a happy mouth loop ring gag, it doesn’t slide, but I like those mouthpieces. The Nathe cartwheel on bit bank is a tiny bit different than I want. It’s got the extra loops at the top and bottom.
I can’t tell from looking at the picture on Bit Bank if this one is jointed in the middle? That’s where my Nathe bit broke – it just broke apart in the middle (right in the middle of a course at a horse show). And it had been barely used at that point. That precipitated a long discussion with Equusport, who said others had complained of the same thing (but maybe not so vociferously as I did, pointing out what a legal liability this was) and then shortly thereafter they discontinued selling a number of the models.
I do remember reading about the jointed nathe bits breaking at the joint, I believe on Equusport’s website. I don’t own any nathe bits, but I like my Sprenger duo, that has so far only been used for lunging a very green horse, but she seems to like it.
Thanks to akhunterrider, I have a cartwheel vulcanite on the way from Equusport! I could not find a traditional nathe cartwheel anywhere except the Middle East and they didn’t answer my email thanks so much, everyone!
