Thirty seconds in and they’ve mispronounced “Samoyed” in the intro.
Color commentators are not dog people. It’s a lot for them to know/remember every breed. It’s taped, but still not scripted.
(It’s not live, it was last weekend, but I can’t tell which show is the televised one - Sat or Sun).
Ah, it was Saturday. Spoiler here are the results:

This was in the taped (and scripted) intro to the whole program. There were actors providing voiceovers to a bloodhound and shih tzu talking about what the viewers were going to see.
To me, that’s just shoddy work for a nationally televised show.
Eh. Most people don’t know how to say it correctly. It’s a dog show. (And I’m a person who shows dogs.) That wouldn’t bother me.
How did they pronounce NEDERLANDSE KOOIKERHONDJES? I’m not sure anyone knows how to say that one.
I don’t like watching this show. I liked watching Westminster, which showed every dog in the Group, instead of just a few, and gave the dog’s name. And it was live. I wish the National Dog Show would do the same.
How did they pronounce Samoyed, BTW? I’ll make a wild stab at the Dutch breed pronunciation as “Nayderlandseh Kye-ker-hond-yes.”
Congrats @S1969! Dave Frei is a cool guy.
One of my books has a Samoyed in it and the person who recorded the audio book asked how to pronounce Samoyed. My whole dog show life it was Sa-MOY-ed and now I mostly hear Sammy-ED. I asked for Sa-MOY-ed (and thankfully haven’t heard any complaints yet.)
I used to hear SAM-o-yed all the time, including from breeders, so I guess I always thought SAM-o-yed and sa-MOY-ed were both accepted. I think Rachel Page Elliott says SAM-o-yed in the Dogsteps video! But saMOYed sounds much better to my ears.
I take umbrage that my main breed, Cairn terriers, are the most aloof. I’ve had many that adore all people, and a few that were “my family only” – but THE most aloof? Hmm.
I’d accuse a bedlington of being aloof before a cairn.
This is my thought too.
