NBCsports Preakness telecast

OK, watching the undercard and upcoming race analysis. There’s some blonde sitting at the desk with the Book of Cliches in front of her. She’s gone back to Howard Cossell (forgot how he spelled his name) for “early foot”, twice in just a few minutes.

But…she and the other two veteran talking heads who should no better have used " new shooters" no less then 5 times in the same very few minute minute stretch…:disgust:. I can’t take it. I HATE that term, they aren’t new, they just didn’t start at CD. Like fingernails on a chalkboard. I’ll watch the feature race but I can’t take no more new shooters with early foot.

Fact I’ll have a shot or three myself and watch some DVR stuff back until posttime. Or the elimination rounds for the NASCAR All Star race…yeah DW, he came to drive today…:ambivalence:. No sh*\ Sherlock…but at least spoken by a former driver, not a decorative blonde.

I was starting to wonder if anyone else here was watching the coverage.

Some exciting finishes on the undercard so far. The crowd looks smaller than I expected.

Yeah, you bet, where’s the infield mob?

At any rate, given a choice between a 4 year grad with a degree in journalistic telecommunications complete with grooming coaches spewing cliches and somebody who either didn’t go to college and/or cut classes in favor of participating in the sport they are commenting on resorting to a cliche? You know where I stand.

Hey, how about that Whitmore horse…won the Sprint, 5th in a row, with NO early foot.

So, the quality of journalism did NOT improve with the switch to regular NBC coverage. What a painful little exchange that was with Bob Costas sitting on the shoulders of two guys wearing horse masks…

No cable but NBC picked up with antenna.
So just tuned in and about the 12th & 13th words were “new” and “shooter”.

Achhhhkkkk…but It seems the mob has turned up in the infield so it’s all good. Or not, creative camera work to create appearance of crowd that isn’t there…

Ill take AD in a 5$ boxed exacta with Classic Empire, no idea how to make any money on this. Note I did not stop in at the nearby racino to put real money on this. We will see if they prove themselves or mail it in. Tracks not fast but not a swamp and comfortable temp, small field,. NO excuses. Let’s see what they got.

Heres hoping they all finish shiny coat side up and not make us all liars, as horses are famous for.

I’ll second that! I’m curious to see if Always Dreaming can hold his form. We’ll see soon enough.

Look NBC has terrible coverage, but at least they are not making asses of themselves like they did at the Derby. Any one know what happened to Tom Hammond? I always liked his commentary.

Question: I think I have only just now noticed that the horses have leg wraps only on their hind legs. What is the reason? Are front wraps not allowed?

Wow!

That was something!! Poor Classic Empire, but I could see Cloud Computing coming from the top of the stretch.

No, they can wrap any legs. Most ran with nothing…and lost like my picks did. Thats why they run the race instead of assume.

Skimpy crowd though…too bad…and the winner was a
…get the barf bag…new shooter…

Thanks, Findeight.

Great race, but hope Always Dreaming is ok. Cloud Computing had six weeks off, Always Dreamimg only two. But AD dropped back so quickly, did he just use himself up racing Classic Empire early on?

Who won? Where was Always Dreaming and what happened to Classic Empire?

Classic Empire finished second after holding the lead most of the stretch. I think he just got outrun, really.

Always Dreaming led the race most of the way but faded to eighth. I’m chalking it up to tiredness and him being a bit of a bonehead? I don’t really know how he behaved over the last 2 weeks though. He basically just stopped moving after he was passed.

Cloud Computing won, passing CE at the end.

AD and CE broke together and ran together all the way around. AD folded at the top of the stretch. CE was still trying to fight when the other horse came up and only gave way near the wire, but no doubt their dual up front set it up nicely for a late closer.

Senior Investment third, Looking at Lee I think fourth. AD faded way back - once he threw in the towel, he was done. His jockey was whipping, though, didn’t act like the horse had something physically wrong with him. Just got tired, I think. CE pushed him every step from the gate.

Pletcher did not look happy.

I skipped the Derby, but I don’t remember NBC’s coverage being this bad before.

Why not support the attempts of the networks to put women is top spots???

The men have not been getting it right enough to have us all just be what they say, so why not an attractive woman? THIS is the problem. Women are so bitchy to women.

Gabby and Acacia and Millie and Christina (K?) are AWESOME and wonderful women and we need MORE of them.

Barbara Banke must be thrilled. Maclean’s music has sired Classic winner.

I watched TVG until the NBC/Pimlico contract forced TVG off the air (from 2:00-4:15pm PT so basically NBC coverage… there was overlap with TVG and NBCSports thank heavens).

I like some of the commentators on NBC but their coverage is nasty. Plus with TVG, there is more than just one track being covered.

Pletcher said that AD was fine when he got back to the barn, just maybe tired with 2 big races so close together.

Reminds me that the Triple Crown is not for the faint of heart and pretty hard to win in a year full of nice, but not great, 3 year old colts. Wonder where Mastery would have appeared in the 3 year old picture if he hadn’t broken down.

Nice ride for CC
