NC Dog Rescue near Asheville, NC?

My farrier was out today. His daughter is at camp in NC near Ashville and he’s supposed to pick her up on Friday. It appears that the camp has befriended a dumped/lost dog and it needs a home. It’s some kind of medium mix Heinz 57. It’s very well behaved, knows sit, stay, lie down. They’ve been feeding it and it’s sleeping in her cabin with her. There are no phones, no electronics (although she’s managed to call Dad about the dog), no way to transmit photos.

My farrier does not want, need or will agree to another dog. So, he’s looking for a rescue or foster who can take this dog in until they can find a home. Preferably near Asheville, or he can meet someone on the way back to KY. He’s willing to make a substantial $$ donation to make sure this dog ends up in a good place.

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately not near Asheville, but Red Dog Farm in Greensboro has been great.

I’ve talked to Brother Wolf Rescue. Fingers crossed. My farrier is checking with the camp to make sure the dog is not a pit or hound cross. Sadly, they are very hard to adopt out. I completely understand, we have a hound that we kept because we couldn’t find a home.

If they don’t work out, I’ll be calling the others. Thank you!

Just West of Asheville is Sarge’s Animal Rescue in Waynesville, NC. I’ve heard great things about Brother Wolf (friend adopted a dog from them recently) and haven’t heard much about Sarge’s, but none of it has been bad. They’re probably not coming past here if they’re going to KY, but it’s worth a shot.

OT, but out of curiosity, what camp? Just wondering because I went to camp around here growing up, now live here, and there are about a bazillion.

Thanks for another name Sparky. I’m not sure what camp. She’s there for a month, no electricity and they live in cabins. That’s all I know. He was moaning and groaning (cheerfully) about how he was being strong armed by DD.

I’ve heard good things about Sarge’s as well–like you said, not as much publicity as Brother Wolf gets, but what I’ve heard is good.

Good Luck with this!

Looking better. The dog seems to be a boarder collie cross (yellow and white according to the camp counselor). Farrier is waiting on a call from the rescue to see if they can take him. Here’s hoping the poor boy doesn’t have a heartworm infection. We’ve had a run on them and mange in the collie rescue.

Which reminds me, does anyone have any Interceptor they can donate? We’ve run out and have another mange case.
