Neck development in stallions

I have a yearling with a scrawny neck. No idea where it came from because both parents have beautiful necks. He’s very well behaved, so I’m thinking about not gelding him until he’s a bit older. At what age will testosterone start to beef up his neck a bit?

At the same age testosterone will make him studly

When does that normally happen?

Soon. Have his testicles descended?

Yearlings often have scrawny necks. Fillies, colts and gelding. It can just be Part of the growth cycle. My yearling is currently short necked and lean. 15.1h though. He will get the neck and body with time. But bones, ligaments and tendons take TIME.

I find between 2 and 4 is when the studly jowl and thicker neck become more obvious between geldings and colts.

Yearlings regularly look like they were overlooked by the Neck Fairy.

Any development from being kept intact will likely go way pretty quickly once gelded, assuming gelded while still young.

I wouldn’t keep him intact just to get a little extra on the neck - you’ll never notice.
