Need a new hunt bridle - best value for the money?

I need a new hunt bridle, and I do appreciate spending more money up front to get quality tack that will last with appropriate care. That said, where can I get the best value for the money? The options I’m looking at are:

The Old Habit, where I have about $70 in credit to use http://www.oldhabit.com/shop/index.cgi?cart_id=9359325.12644&id=25

Horse Country - how much of a difference is there in the usefulness and attractiveness of the First Flight, Second Flight, and Hilltopper lines? There is an explanation in the catalog, but I’d like to ask someone who has seen and used them IRL.

Then there’s Bartville Harness, which would be by far and away the least expensive. I have heard good things about their products. Should I spend more and order from Old Habit or Horse country? Can I save money and still get an attractive, well made bridle from Bartville?

Input from those who have seen/used any of these IRL would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

The Bartville bridles have been highly recommended in these parts. Haven’t tried them yet, but am very pleased with the Smith-Worthington I got a couple of years ago. Considerably less expensive than Old Habit, although I do in general enjoy doing business with OH!

The Bartville bridles are very workman like & will last beyond a lifetime with proper care.
If you take measurements they will mix & match pieces to come up with the best fit possible.

Bartville is great! Have tons of their stuff now (breastplates, bridles, reins, martingales) and love it all! Looks great and so worth the money!

Triple ditto the Bartville leather. Levi has assisted me with several things the past two years. He always cheerful and service oriented. His products are excellent. I’ve purchased two hunt bridles w/ reins, a breastplate, sandwich case, girth, thong for a whip and he made me a wire cutter case which is to.die.for.

Probably the biggest difference between Bartville and the other two places you mention would be the buckles. Bartville uses roller buckles on their products. Two good things happen- the leather doesn’t get cut/indented from the buckle and secondly, it makes adjustments a cinch.

Goodapple consignment store in Ocala has a very nice Flat Jeffries hunt bridle[brand new]

I have forgotten the price but it was veery reasonable.

Another Bartville fan here.

Levi is very easy to work with, even using the old technology  of letter and phone for custom orders. I got a hunt noseband (I have a “franken-bridle” assembled from parts from four different makers) and it’s extremely well made. He also made me a sandwich case (in black, no less) that is absolutely gorgeous. And Bartville’s lined stirrup leathers with roller buckles are the absolute best at any price (and other shops sell them at quite a mark-up).

Go Bartville!

I’m going to place my order with Bartville  Citydog, I was laughing when I read your post - I’d already marked the lined stirrup leathers in the catalog! Definitely getting a pair of those. I measured the old (too small) bridle tonight, with the Bartville catalog in hand, and fortunately I need an oversize in each of the parts, so I won’t have to order pieces separately.

Thanks!

jmho!

How about $56 for a Paris Hunt Bridle (brown/flat tack) in the Stateline catalog. I bought one and love it. Australian leather. Terrific buy.

I like Pinnacle’s Comfort Plus bridle lines.

I have their Comfort Plus dressage bridle and have been using it for a year. It’s holding up beautifully and has amazing soft leather and excellent quality stitching. My trainer (who only uses Stubben) mentioned how nice it is!

I bought mine through Schneiders for $100.00 but found the hunt bridle for $80 here!

Bobby’s Bridles

I adore the bridles from Bobby’s English tack. The leather is soft supple and looks great year after year. I always get compliments, and they are VERY reasonable (and durable!).

I only see raised/fancy stitched models at the link you gave. I’m looking for a flat hunt bridle at this time. But thanks for the link! I always bookmark new sites to check into later if I need something else.

So what are prices like on Bartville bridles then? I have a horse that needs a proper hunt bridle, noseband with flash and rubber reins. What would that run me? And where is the shop located? Assuming they ship though?

Can’t find my catalog right now but the flat hunt bridle runs just under $80. The 3/4" laced reins were about $70. They sell a rubber rein which is advertized as being very soft and forgiving in a riders hands, probably about the same price.

Just an FYI- Classic Equine’s flat hunt bridle was just posted on TOTD for about $100. I have never seen one of these bridles in person, but it looks nice on the horse in the picture. Might be worth checking out!

Cob, $82.80; Horse, $86.10; Oversize, $93.85
Flash, $14.70
Rubber reins with Equis rubber grip in 5/8" or 3/4" x 24" or 30", $68.00-$72.80
Super Grip Rubber Rein, $51.20

They have one on Tack of the day today. Looks nice…

Nevermind looks like somebody has already told you about it…

Did you read the “Tacky” Fun on TOTD?

What a hoot. I don’t think I’ll add it to my foxhunting page, but definitely found it funny…

I was also going to mention the TOTD… You have to jump on them fast since they’re only 24 hours but there are some GREAT finds. I’m upset that I missed out on the leather gallop boots they had yesterday.

I, too, like Bobby’s. Much better than our two from Horse Country and half the price.
