Need a new rain sheet. What's a good one?

Another Rambo fan. I have some that are 10 years old and still very functional. I have them retreated for waterproofing every few years. They fit MOST horses well - although if you have a short horse, they are usually too deep through the body.

Another long lasting brand is Bucas - also expensive, but also lasting for years and years.

I’ve tried a lot of brands, and those are my favorites. Weathabeeta is probably my next favorite - tends to fit a lot of horses well - and they tend to last a few years (but not as many as the Rambo and Bucas). And in a similar category is the Dover International blankets - although not as sturdy, I’ve had a few rip, but Dover has a pretty good warranty policy.

Schneider blankets are so binding on shoulders, they usually end up causing rubs, and the two I had both lasted through 2 seasons then died. SmartPak are also really binding through the shoulders. Most other brands I’ve tried have caused shoulder rubs pretty quickly.

Part of it is finding what fit works best for your horse… And be careful how you wash the blankets - regular detergent will strip out the water-proofing in many blankets.

I think you can’t beat a Baker sheet

How were you washing them? I use a front loader and even with Rambo wash using a fast spin speed will damage the waterproofing. (I learned that from someone on here)! Use a medium spin and no issues.

Smartpack blankets have a 10 year warranty… Seems too good to be true but they replaced a sheet whose waterproofing failed on me last year and so for so good with #2

Ummm, that lifetime warranty equals three years, max. When I asked for more detail (more than one Dover rep – in store and by phone), I was told that a lifetime warranty means the lifetime of a blanket and that a blanket should be expected to last two to three years. Maybe they would have exchanged one that was older than that, I don’t know, but clearly, they weren’t offering the 10 year guaranty that other companies offer. But when I considered purchasing a new one, I was told to expect it to last no more than three years.

Yeah, I ended up purchasing elsewhere.

WOW! I just exchanged my 6 year old blankets and got the newest versions in a different size because they don’t make the older version anymore. Plus the original size was for my horse that passed away and now I have a growing 3 year old. No issues what so ever.

I got this just in time for a big rain storm. Fits perfectly and kept him dry but not hot (he’s not clipped). Couldn’t be happier. Thank you!

Do you mean you bought new ones? Or you traded 6 year old, used blankets for new ones in a different size for a different horse?

I traded in my 6 year old ripped ones for brand new blankets of a different size. Heck, they even paid for shipping back to the warehouse!

That’s an extremely generous return policy. I have heard of people never paying for new boots and just returning used ones every couple years… and I guess that’s why Dover’s prices are higher… I’m not sure I could do that, TBH.

So glad it was a good fit for you! I’m a happy customer of both Horseware and Adams
