Need a new rain sheet. What's a good one?

I need a new waterproof sheet for my high-withered horse. He’s not really hard on blankets, but I’d like to get one that will last a good five years. (He lives in a 12 X 24 pipe corral and is never turned out with a blanket on.).

Any recommendations?

I love Big D!

I love my Schneider’s. Mine are 7 years old now and show almost no wear. They also offer multiple different styles so it’s easy to find one that fits. One of the owners at the barn I use to be at had a high withered ottb that she got the VTEK for and it fit him really well.

I’m in love with the Tough-1 1680 denier snuggit neck sheet. It’s the only one so far that doesn’t make my mare miserable, and it’s still waterproof after a full season of almost daily wear. It sits in front of her withers but not as high as a high-neck. If you think a Rhino would fit him, that would be my other suggestion for a TB type. My mare hates the Rhinos and Rambos because the front attachment sits just a little too high.

I love anything Horseware (Rambo, Rhino, Amigo). If the high withers are a serious blanket-fitting challenge, the wug style is a godsend. Rambos have the most drop and are often a good choice for wide/deep horses, Rhinos run a bit narrow in the chest, Amigos are pretty straightforward.

A bit pricey but I couldn’t be happier with my Rambo Wug sheet.

I only do Horseware anymore. Rambo, Rhino, or Amigo Bravo.

Adams has an Amigo Bravo Wug sheet for $109.99 with free shipping: https://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/amigo-bravo-12-wug-light-turnout-exclusive-color-203907

It’s a high neck and Horseware quality for about $50 less than Dover, State Line, etc. I’m a fan of the high-necked blankets and sheets for withery horses.

Yes, I would go with a Rambo Wug, if possible, with Rhino a close second, then Amigo. I would love to outfit all mine in Rambo but it means doing it slowly over time with many a sale. $200 for a sheet seems like a lot but I guess it’s not really if you don’t end up replacing it every other year.

Weatherbeeta. I’m done with Rambos - sheet #6 just failed me this season. #6!! Such a waste of money and yes all were properly taken care of and even washed with Rambo Wash. Sure they honored their guarantee (why I went through six of them) but eventually they don’t. All six have completely failed as in soaked all the way through. Waste of money.

Amigo 1200 D for me. No other blanket can compete in my thorough experience!
Though, if you want to go on the cheap I bought a back-up rainsheet that is the “Shires” brand, SUPER cheap and very waterproof! http://www.willowequestrian.com/shires-shires-tempest-plus-rain-sheet-1200d.html That’s the one I ordered and it’s super! I think we got one for $75 at an equine expo and I was thoroughly impressed!

I would get a high neck - less prone to slip down behind shark fin withers.

The shires sheets are good. The Stormcheeta line is super heavy duty and way cheaper than Rambo.

I’m happy with my Rambos and Amigo Bravos. I’ve also had good luck with Riders International rain sheets, with many 10+ year old ones still in active use.

But blanket preferences seem to be highly dependent on the horse and user, as seen from the variety on this thread. For example, I end up hating most everything I purchase from Schneiders and Weatherbeeta. Every few years I find a good deal on one or the another and give them another try. Every few years I end up disappointed again. Other people love them.

I’ve had good experiences with Shires (1200D integrated neck, my super particular TB really liked it), Schneider’s (80g full, nice weight if you want just a pinch of insulation), Weatherbeeta, and Amigo.

The blanket no one has been able to kill though, and has not been waterproof treated since I got it in 2004, is a Bucas.

That’s crazy. I don’t get how that would happen?! I’ve had good luck with my Rambos. Biggest complaint about WB is I hate leg straps, they are a bit loose for my preference and the fray a lot- piping comes off and the fabric gets caught in stuff. All that said they are still my back up brand.

Yes this is how I feel. I believe you were recently looking for good deals on Horseware sheets. Adams had/has some. I really am missing the blanket deals Net Equestrian used to have this time of year.

After giving my local tack store a visit, this is what I ordered. Thanks!

Rambo. I like the original sheets (green with red). I have some that are 18 years old and going strong.

I just got the Amigo Wug medium for one of mine. Adams has some good Horseware sales for sure.
