Spent an hour sewing new ears. I had made black ones, changed my mind and decided I wanted brown.
Two coats of poly on, one satin one to finish it off tonight. Then saddle/ears/mane/tail. I’m so close!!

need to make it a turn out blanket(just one not one of every weight) , shipping boots and a fly mask …and maybe some form of termite protection ?
We had a mishap with the 550 grit sand paper. Repaired to the best of my ability, will wait a couple hours for the repair to dry, then the final coat is going on.
Have I mentioned how unpleasant this project has been? Ughhh
I’ve got the mane and ears left. I made my mane too thick and it won’t go into the slot, so I will have to try again (everything takes two + tries lalalala get out of my house stupid projectttt).
Also, before anyone rips me an ass for the googly eyes, they’re original. Here’s our rocking horse going through her punk rock/neo nazi stage, prior to her transformation.
You are doing an amazing job, even if you aren’t enjoying it! Pony looks much better!
This is really just lovely. Your frustration is palpable coming off the page, but it’ll all be worth it! Such a nice heirloom. You’re almost there!
If it’s not out of my house by Saturday, I’m going to light it on fire.
Taking it apart was fun. Screwing it back together was fun. It’s eveeeeeerything else that sucked ass.
This has taken me months, I am ashamed to admit. I’m frustrated and nearly into the “eff it” mode where you start doing crap work because you’re tired of it. Have to keep my attitude in check, i can taste the end at this point!
We have ears. I am waiting on the mane glue to dry. I have started cleaning up.
So. Stinking. Close.
Looks good. I feel you. I will spend half the coming weekend at the barn (literally) staining and varnishing a jog cart. I have to fix the stain job as there are white spots from the first try. I should have done it last weekend, but I just couldn’t make myself do it.
That sounds like a lot of nooks and crannies, and I would inevitably miss something.
What caused the white spots?
I apparently did a crap job of staining it. I had it upside down and should have done it with it right side up. The bottom looks great though. LOL. It actually doesn’t have too many nooks or crannies, it’s basically just 2x2x12’s with a cross bar. It’s off the running gear, so fairly easy peasy …except I screwed it up.
So I load up my trusty Corolla on Friday & truck it down to barn. Sand & stain it on Friday, then a couple coats of varnish on Saturday. There’s an apartment there so I can spend the night. Only problem is the horse in the stall on the other side of the bedroom likes to play with his feed bucket at 0630 every morning.
WE HAVE A MANE!! Should I trim it? It’s super bushy.
But I’m done I’m done I’m done I’m done I’m doneeeee
I love the long mane!
Congrats for being DONE
My hunter/jumper trainer would say yes. The secret rodeo princess in me says no.
Looking great!!!
Leave the mane! The mane reminds me of my mini’s
You did a terrific job!
I think you should post side-by-side photos of Dory with her doppelganger!
I’ll try to remember to take it with me tonight, but I admit that I don’t want it to get dirty lol
I might trim the mane just a tiny bit, but I’m leaving it pretty dang long.
It goes to its final home tomorrow morning.
