Need baby bird identification and input! Happy update w/ Pictures!

Just found this baby bird while at a business party. He was in a metal gutter on a metal roof. I don’t know if he’s learning to fly or? No parents/nest in sight. He’s almost the size of a pigeon? Flight feathers on wings but baby fuzz everywhere else. I’m worried about print him back because he’ll bake in the morning… Should I put him back or take him to the wildlife rescue in the morning?

I’ll try to get more photos but this is what I can get posted from my phone. He hasa crazy long, kind of vulture looking beak?

Your link doesn’t work. Sounds like he might be a starling?? I would put him back.

Ok, I have an ID now… Rock dove… No sign of nest or parents and definitely not ready to fly so I made the tough decision to take him. On that metal roof he would’ve almost certainly cooked tomorrow. I’m guessing he’s about 2 weeks old based on my very quick research? I’m planning to take him to the wildlife center tomorrow but if anyone has advice in the meantime let me know.

Just wanted to update… My little pigeon is doing great! I was going to take him to the wildlife center but frankly, they didn’t seem super enthused to put resources into a pigeon. I have experience with birds (although not babies) so I did a little research the night I found him and it turns out they’re not all that tough to raise, particularly since he is a little older… So I have a pigeon in my sun room  I went out on Saturday and got all the supplies I need and he is doing great so far. I’ve found some COTH-esque online help for pigeons which has been great.

He’s VERY active and is a good little eater. I don’t know exactly how long he had been abandoned but I suspect it had been for a decent amount of time - I don’t think he had eaten for awhile. He’s also probably 2 or 3 weeks out from flying so I’m glad I decided to take him. He would have been a goner between the heat, lack of food, and the downspout a few feet from where he was in the gutter.

Here’s a better picture and a video for good measure… My little “flying rat” is actually a pretty funny little dude!

Awwww! He is super cute! Keep us posted!

Baby pigeon is about 21 days old now I think… He’s started learning to eat on his own (although he much prefers being waited on ). I couldn’t resist taking a little video of him begging for breakfast.

As you can see he’s VERY active and is starting to try to jump out of the brooder… Gonna have to set him up a coop situation soon - luckily I have an old rabbit hutch that I think will work. I need to start doing a little more research on what to do with him once he’s grown up and flying… I’m kind of planning on giving him a place to eat/sleep but letting him come and go as he pleases? We’ll see what happens.

He is so ugly he is cute. Poor thing.

Hahaha, I know! The little yellow fuzz hairs make him look like an old balding man! We named him Skeksi after the creatures from The Dark Crystal. Hopefully hill get a little cuter as he grows up… Although I tend to love ugly little creatures the most

Have to keep us updated!!! Very cool
