Need Dog sweater /blanket ideas/advice

Looking for a cover up for our Boston Terrier XL  Today was the first really chilly day in FL and well the poor guy is not a fan!
Hes spend the day shivering and or under the covers in one of the bedrooms. House is a lovely 65 btw.

He is about 30lbs and stocky think QH not TB .

What are good choices I don’t want to get him something that will not last/be uncomfortable

They are quite expensive, but Foggy Mountain dog jackets might work for your guy. They make an English bulldog cut and Frenchie cut that should be wide enough for your Boston. Excellent quality product!

My favorite fleece blankets are RC Pets Whistler Wear and Fido Fleece. For heavier, waterproof stuff, I like the Foggy Mountain turnout blankets. I do not like Ruff Wear–totally fell apart in a couple weeks and rubbed the dog.

There have been several threads with lots of suggestions

I am having trouble with the idea that a boston needs a coat in Florida.

My little old Boston is cold at any temperature under 70 degrees  haha! She will either request a sweatshirt or will bury herself under a mountain of blankets.

OP - The Zack and Zoey hooded sweatshirts are the go-to accessory for my Boston and my parents’ Boston. They hold up well and seem to fit the little bulldog bodies well. Plus the hooded shirt seems to keep the neck from streching out - which allows my Boston to shimmy out of the neck of her regular sweaters sometimes! She wears these almost 24/7 in the winter… I just trade off between the 3-4 I have while they’re being washed. Here’s an example but they come in a bunch of colors and prints:http://www.baxterboo.com/dog/supplies.cfm/basic-dog-hoodie-vibrant-orange

I also have one of the little smartpak pink plaid blankets for my Boston for when it’s REALLY cold. Sometimes she layers. haha!

Oh he does the look on his face this morning when he realized that not only was the air cold but the dewy grass was also cold …had to literally shove him into the yard. Its not the dew either he swims/bobs/ with the best of them water is totally fine with him.

His house mates are a GSD, GSD/Husky , and Lab/Beagle. All born and raised in Maine. They LOVED the cold and I’m sure question my sanity in making them move to the hottest , muggiest place on earth.

He however is a FL boy all the way …I’d like to see him out from under the covers a few times before March so Blanket/Coat it is !

WENDY - I laughed, but I can tell you that I moved down here two years ago from the “north”. It was 65 today and I was freezing…wishing I had socks on and a heavier sweater.

OP
It seems you have several choices: Go online to Dover or smartpak - they have dog coats styled like little tiny horse blankets, at a reasonable cost. Fleece or nylon type fabric.

If you are in a hurry…Go to a pet store where the little sweaters can be tried on but will be over-priced probably. Actually, I think I saw some doggy clothes in Target the other day or perhaps try Walmart.

IMO the more parts it has to cover - like the above hoodie, the trickier the fit.

Fido Fleece is available in a broad chest version for the littler dogs, and that might work very well for you.

My local feed store/pet store has prices far better than online. You might score locally, price wise, and trying stuff on is important. I had to go up two sizes from where the size charts indicated for my dog (for Fido Fleece) just because she’s BUILT and needed room in the chest.

Lots of recent threads on this. Most of the popular ones have been mentioned. K9 Apparel is another popular one. Smartpak is cheap and does a decent job.

I had been looking for the same stuff for my Min Pins X-mas. I was in Big Lots and they had some thinner stuff and novelty type wear. Check out some of the on-line horse stores, so of their dog wear is quite practical.(dog.com, horseloverz.com, etc…).

I recently moved to the UP, so my poodles are in this when in the house. It’s cheap, easy to adjust, and washed well. It keeps my hot house flower toasty, and my chunky guy just like wearing his. It’s also good to dry them off after a romp through the snow…

Great Coats

I absolutely LOVE the coats from Chilly Dogs.
I have whippets and they fit them great - but I have friends who have a boxer and they fit him really well too.

Their website is chillydogs.ca

I have a Pesoa blanket for my dog, it has a nylon shell and its a pretty good weight 200+grams of fill (?) I think. It does not pick up leaves/dirt/sticks like some blankets do. I used to have a fleece blanket and it was a magnet for dirt.

I would think a boston needs belly coverage. My dad’s boston had zero hair on her belly and would get so cold. My new pitty/boxer/blackmouth cur dog (thin skinned and not a lot of hair ) gets cold and I am thinking of getting him a toddler sized sweatshirt for inside the house.

I have a 60lb bald dog that lives in sweaters.

If you’re just looking for something lightweight, go to petsmart NOW! All of theirs are 20% off until Monday. The Martha Stewarts are precious but they also do this 2-for-1 pack that are nice light and cheap, that she sleeps in.

For ‘outdoor’ wet weather, my girl has a newmarket fleece by Weatherbeeta that I bought at the tack store and its STURDY. I tried a ton of stuff on but I loved the way it fit and even when it gets wet (she loves to wallow) it never soaks through. I’m about to invest in another one for my new thin skinned boy.

I bought my Pit mix two weatherbeeta dog blankets at our local tack shop and just LOVE them. This is a bonded fleece and I also have a water resistant nylon one that is lined in fleece. I was very surprised at how reasonably priced they were…I think this one was like $22.00 and the other maybe around $32.00. They are made from remnants of real horse blankets! I think I prefer this one…its soft and cozy but not good if you like to walk in the rain!

I second the coats from Schneider. They have been my go to coat for my Chihuahua/Jack X for years. I have bought that pooch more coats and that is the one he wears, and likes the best in the house. Poor little guy wishes he lived in Florida for the winter since we only turn our heat up to 60! He lives under the covers or 1 inch from the Woodstove all winter unless he is his jammies. My other chihuahua,Freaky Leaky Peaky, isn’t anywhere near as cold and would never lay on the hardtop during the 90 weather in the summer, like my poor boy, George
