Hi.
I am getting ready bring some of my babies here from the east coast. Finding spacious turn out and grass does not seem to be a reasonable prospect unless I am in the Del Mar area. Anything past Lakeside is too far for daily driving. Driving south is not optimal due to the traffic patterns and honestly, did not feel safe for me.
What are some of the boarding barns that you like? Preferably with a relaxed atmosphere. I do not want to be in a training program but would like lessons on my horses. I am not opposed to a trainer ride but not as part of the monthly package. Ideally, I would to lesson at least once a week on 2 of mine, but privately. I am seeing a lot of group lessons.
I enjoy setting at Pepperwood and board seems affordable. However, I have been to barns that are less “nice” and the board is more. One example would be Galaway Downs.
What is the average board I should expect to pay for a decent size stall (the bigger the better) and options for turnout? I have 4 horses so trying to keep my total expense under 3k. I feel like this should be reasonable but maybe I am under estimating just how expensive SoCal is.
Are people paying the same for stalls that are pipe fencing as a nice barn with a run off the stall? It seems that way to me, so I am just trying to gage my budget.
