Need Help with Frontier groomer mower: Solid rubber tire slipped off wheel

So I was mowing out in the field a few weeks ago and got one of the mower wheels caught under a fence wire. In getting myself free, the solid rubber tire was pried off the wheel.

I took the wheel and tire assembly off the mower and took it down to the John Deere dealer today and – they cannot put the tire back on the wheel. They sent me someplace else, who sent me someplace else, who sent me someplace else and it turns out I am still not able to find anyone who can re-seat the wheel. Apparently it takes special equipment to put this tire back on.

JD Dealer can order a replacement part, but it only comes a kit with complete assembly for ALL FOUR WHEELS. I don’t know the price yet, but am sure it will be outrageous and I do not need all four wheels replaced.

Any suggestions of where I could this tire re-seated onto the wheel? I don’t even really know what to Google to try to find someone.

Any ideas?

Tractor Supply here has all kinds of those wheels on hand, a whole aisle.
They seem to be very reasonably priced.

You could see if some or other may fit, even if it doesn’t look exactly like the others.
As long as it is close to the same size and fits in the axle, it should be fine.

There are some small individual shops that work on all kinds of mowers.
See if you have one around there and they may have one such wheel or know where to go find one from a junked mower.

Have you tried bicycle tools? Just a suggestion.

I didn’t know finishing mowers had wheels.

you need a couple of measurements.

axle diameter
axle length
tire width
tire diameter

Then …

Stens.com

If you post the frontier model number… Perhaps I or someone else could help further.

hosspuller, thank you!

It’s a Frontier GM1060r – a rear discharge grooming mower.
My owner’s manual has a parts list and it looks like its the WP18989.

Was the frontier part number you were quoted as (4) 5BP0006967 ?

No, the dealer did not give me the part number. They just said it came as a set of four and I said I would keep looking.

Is this the correct wheel?

If so, you may need the JD one, if you have to buy the whole kit.
Those are heftier than the kinds they generally sell for light carts and sprayers at TSC, but you could check there, just in case.

I thought you were talking about the little gauge wheels on the mower itself, the little black half ball looking ones.

If that is the one, the dealer may have thought like I did, you were looking for the mower deck ones?

try this … http://www.allgreenparts.com/search.php?search_query=5WP18989&x=30&y=8

Pack of ONE $85.90

You’ll likely get better price at Gemplers or such but it won’t match the others in appearance. Functionally the same …

Ignore this post… I guessed at your model number.

Oh my gosh, hosspuller, you are my new hero!
That’s it and I placed the order!

Another option… If the tire and wheel are NOT damaged… A forklift service place. They have presses to handle solid rubber tires.

King’s Ransom … Glad to help.

The grass and weeds are getting out of hand, so I went ahead and placed the order. However, given more time to call around, I can try to get this one fixed as a back-up replacement.

The last place I talked to suggested an industrial service place in downtown Kansas City might be able to do it – but downtown Kansas City would be an all-day trip for me, and I would have to go on a weekday so I would have to take off work.

Thank you again for your help!
