I am looking for some fall/spring weight breeches. I have a ton of lightweight summer breeches and enough fleece lined winter breeches, but I need something in between. I am 5 hours from a tack store, so dont have the luxury of putting my hands on them before I buy. I have a pair of FITS Finleys and Esprit Pro’s and love the feel of both of those. I strongly prefer tights with a silicone seat. What’s out there in a mid weight?
I recently got a pair of the newest KL Select breeches and have to say they are beautiful. I’ve only had them a few months but I think they’ll last a while. I also have a pair of Le Mieux and Ariat Tri-factor breeches that I would call midweight. The fabric is a little thicker and not clingy, so they don’t show everything. The Ariats have held up for a long time. I don’t wear the Le Mieux that often but only because they’re maroon which I’ve found is just not a color I reach for often. If they were a different color I would wear them a lot more.
I recently bought a pair of Dover breeches. I wore them for the first time on Frida. I really liked them. They are the Wellesley. Currently on clearance
The Romfh breeches and Smartpak Piper are what I call a “regular” weight. I wear them in the fall, spring, or to lessons and clinics.
Like you I have Kerrits tights for schooling in the summer at home, Espirit for summer lessons, and Kerrits Wind Pros for the winter. I think anything called a “breech” and not a tight is more mid season. I also have some of the Horze Tara breeches. If you are fine with a Snoop Dog High rise they are very flattering and something in between a breech and a tight if that makes sense.
I like the Ariat Tri Factors and Rhomf breeches as well. Also Montar, but many brands are too short for me. The Ariat and Rhomf come in long length, and the Montar regular inseam is long enough. So fit kind of makes or breaks it.
I am loving the Free Ride breeches that I got earlier this year. I find the Pro line to be a bit stiffer fabric (but still super stretchy/flexible) and the lux is more like a thick legging. I am still wearing them comfortably and our temperatures have hit -10c … I am going to check out their lined options for winter because of how much I prefer the Free Ride to my previous favourite - Kerrits.
Have you tried buckwild breeches? I’ve ordered a couple of pairs and am happy with the quality and they weren’t too expensive. They’re definitely that Midweight fabric.
For this time of year, in between my super lightweight and breathable and fleece breeches seasons, the Pikeur Candela is my jam. I like the “glamour” because they have the thigh phone pocket but the thicker fabric is the same on both kinds. They are too hot for me in the summer but perfect for spring/fall.
Another vote for Romfh (Isabellas look great after repeated washings)
Another kerrits summer fan checking in here.
Samshield and ROMPH are my go to mid weight. I always pick them up when they’re on sale because I know I’ll use them.
I like the Free Ride winter breeches. I find them to be perfect for anything from 30-65. They aren’t a super thick intense winter breech - I think mid weight is a good description. My barn’s indoor stays very warm, especially on cold but sunny days, so I find them to be perfect when it might be high 30s and windy outside but feel like 60 once I’m warmed up and riding inside.
I find the Correct Connect Winter Weight Breeches fill this bill. They are like structured tights, have silicone grip, and are super comfortable. Zipper, belt loops, and a perfect phone pocket. They aren’t as thick as other fleece-lined breeches I have and are a nice weight for 30ish to mid 50s days. Plus they are very well priced, under $100.
How did you feel their sizing was? I’m a 26, so the upper range of a small but they also said they were super stretchy. I love all the pockets and the structure.
They are indeed very stretchy. I’m quite tall and the L is plenty generous.
