Need pad suggestions for a Ghost

So I’ve been demoing a Ghost Quilty and ordered mine. I’ve been struggling to find a pad that feels good and works with it as my gelding has a very forward girth groove the billet strap keepers cause more problems than not.

It is a treeless, so something I can have inserts in if needed is a bonus. We tried it a bunch without inserts in a pad and it works fine that way (he is round and I’m a lightweight rider) but I know long term we should have more support in the pad to protect his back.

I guess I’m looking for a pad that isn’t huge too… I have a Matrix Endurance Sport woolback, but it looks so big under it. I’ve talked with JenX pads and she has something made for “stubby endurance saddles” but I’m not sold on those pads yet (and they are $$$). Sent an email to Skito to see what their Ghost Pads look like - as a regular Skito was not a great fit under it (tried one, a bit long for him, big overall and too stiff).

I’m actually ordering my saddle rigged with short western latigos as I have a cinch that works well for him already, rather than having to get a new girth (but can change my mind in the future if I want and switch rigging styles).

Any others I’m missing to consider?
I think a round skit type or barrel style is more the cut we need?

Have you looked at Equipedic?

I’m using a HAF pad with mine

I’ve had one before - did not like it.

Which HAF? I have an older 8200, but their rounded one looks more the ‘shape’ match. It is my one pad left to try out while I still have the demo.

I have the 8300 Enduro Trail one. I did change the inserts from what came with it.

OK, same shape as my 8200… just the ‘newer’ version that has removable inserts instead of built in ones (mine is from 2008!).

Maybe try just not using the keepers on the pads, since your pony’s girth groove is so forward, I’ve used a Ghost Roma with: a big Skito; the wool Ghost pad; the synthetic Ghost pad; an inexpensive fleece pad; a honeycomb synthetic. On some combos, I just do not use the billet keepers on the pad, as I too want to let the billets come farther forward than the pad’s keepers would allow. Not using the keepers did not create any problems with the pad creeping back, despite lots of hills and speed and distance.

Good to know.
It did actually set up OK with the keepers on the matrix last night since they are more flexible in where the fall compared to others.

I have not been using them so far, and it seems like it puts some pads in a funky position in their “flap” portion - which is why I thought a more contoured pad or something might work the best.

Skito makes a wide variety of inserts. I believe you can even get felt inserts from them. Same with exterior fabric, big selection. I do not use memory foam inserts anymore but do have several Skito shims. I do like felt inserts or open cell foam, like a poron type foam. I put poron foam into a english cut Skito pad and use that under my Ghost saddle. I also like easy wash pads!

Yep, I’ve been waiting to hear back from Tom after sending him the photos he requested. I know Marlene likes their new treeless inserts vs. the old style … Easy wash is def appreciated lol

Here’s a pic in the matrix…I guess it isn’t too humongous looking.
