Need recommendation for dog booties

It’s in the single digits here today and we just got a fresh dumping of snow. I took my dog out for a walk today and the poor thing was limping not even five minutes into it. We came right home and I warmed her feet up for her. I couldn’t find any cuts or injuries and she walked fine once she warmed up. I guess she needs booties to walk in these temps :frowning: but I’ve never had any experience with them. Any brands I should look at or avoid? She’s an 85lb Rhodesian Ridgeback and we walk on trails, not roads.

My old dog started having problems with snow when she was 11. From what we can tell, the snow gets in her pads and she would stop every 5 minutes whining for us to clear her feet. With her booties on, she has zero problems and seems to have better traction. She refuses to go in the snw for more than 5 minutes without them

I use these https://www.dogbooties.com/ . They’re cheap, easy to put on, and stay on. We’ve lost a few (they don’t fall off, we’re just disorganized) and it’s easy to just order a few spares instead of a whole new set. At 13, her front feet were so arthritic and bumpy we ordered a few in a larger size for the front. Plus, they come in fun colors!

Here’s the old lady modeling her footwear

And a video, just because she’s adorable! Excuse the mismatched colors, we couldn’t find a full set of either color :o

I just purchased some sled dog booties from Mountain Ridge Sled Dog Equipment. Amy Dugan, the owner, was EXCELLENT - she got the order out really fast, and was wonderful in helping me determine just what size I wanted to order for my two young rough collies (60 and 65 lbs) and older Sheltie (20lb). The booties are made of soft material and I was very pleased with the construction and the velcro closing. Easy to slip on and secure, and in green so I can make sure the dogs are still wearing them as they run around in the snow. Best of all they were only $1.50 each. Shipment was very quick.

With all the snow we had last night, my dogs had NO trouble galloping, playing, and romping in some pretty deep snow in their new booties, and were not bothered by the booties at all. Best - NO ICE BUILDUP in their paws. Thank goodness, because I was tired of trying to free up their pads in past snowfalls.

What I like best is these booties are the same type used for sled dog races and training, so I know they will hold up for mine in their daily walks with me in the fields.

Very, very happy with them. Website: http://mountainridge.estoreadvanced.biz/

Cool thanks guys! I think I’ll have to take her to a store and try some on to see how she feels about them, and how they fit. Someone else recommended Muttluks to me and I like the look of those a lot, especially the top “sock” that can be rolled up or down.

The dog boots from REI are really nice.

The Mutluks have worked great for us.

I use Ruffwear Grip Tex boots on my GSD. They have a very rugged vibram sole and they are easy to get on and off. Mr. Dog had minor toe surgery so he was rocking them on runs for quite a while. For running though I pull a pair of toddler socks under the boots to prevent potential rubs. They stay on very well and wearing stripped gym socks has made my usually scary looking dog more than a couple of new friends.

OP if you PM me your address I have a set of dog boots that might work for you. I bought them for my Aunt’s GSD but she never used them.
I loaned them to a friend who’s boxer has a grass allergy. He took them off pretty quickly once he was unattended outside. Plus one of the other boxers thought they were great toys to chase while still on his feet.
They have been sitting doing nothing. They need a home.

muttluks just fall off, in my experience- and others, since I quite often find an abandoned muttluk here and there.

the only ones I’ve ever had good experiences with were the Neopaws.
