Need Serious Hunter/Jumper barn in South Florida

Hi Everyone:

I’m relocating to South Florida/Coral Springs from the northeast and am looking for a serious hunter/jumper barn where I can lease a horse and show. I’m willing to travel to Wellington, Miami, etc. An hour commute is fine with me so any recommendations for trainers/barns would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Are you contemplating showing at the USEF AA level or more regional/local? And how is your budget? The serious H/J barns in that area are real serious show barns and prices reflect that.

Intereseted in the biggies or something more manageable and less high powered?

Try Castlewood & Alan Korotkin in Welly, they always have horses for lease and go to VSF, indoors & WEF.

If you want something very close to Coral Springs (within ten minutes)/ Try Fox Stone Farm in Coconut Creek. It is at the intersection of wiles and lyons rd. They have very nice horses to lease, a lighted ring and show all year round.

Agreed. I live in the area and ride nearby. Are you interested in the A shows only or the local circuit? If you’re into the A circuit check out Fox Stone. Their clients go to the A shows up in Wellington and they always seem to be advertising really nice show horses for lease. If you’re more interested in the local circuit, there are other barns right in the Coconut Creek area that show on the PBCHA local circuit (Palm Beach County Horseman’s Association) , which is the competitive local show circuit that is located at the WEF grounds during the off-season.

There are also a few show barns in Parkland, which is just north of Coral Springs and would be a slightly longer drive.
And north of Parkland but still south of Wellington and a 40 minute or so drive from Coral Springs, is Sunshine Meadows Equestrian Village in Delray Beach ( http://www.floridahorse.com/sunshine/index.html ) which includes several show barns and hosts A shows.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses!

I don’t mind driving to Wellington and so far I’ve targeted my search there. I don’t really want a huge barn that’s a huge production because I’d prefer more individual attention for me and my horse (I plan on leasing when I relocate).

I’ve received a few individual names but any more trainer suggestions would be more than appreciated.

Thanks!

There are actually quite a few barns in the wellington area, however many are large, due to WEF and the operations they carry. With that said, I do have a few friends at Team Rakowski, which is a small but very well run group out of Wellington, and then they summer in KY, MI and Chicago. Ivan Rakowski works with Margie Engle, and Jacob Pope trains many of the other riders there. I believer there is a total of 6 clients right now, so again small farm. With them being small they aren’t necessarily cheap, so you pay more for the individual attention, but they are GREAT.

If you are just looking for a good barn, there is Castlewood (as the poster above mentioned) and they have great trainers as well. In addition there is Carriage Hill Farm which is in the area too. These of course are larger operations but still really good. Ashland is probably one of the biggest in the area, but produce great horses and riders.

I would encourage you to visit a few of these placed to decide what you are looking for, and then make your decision.

I hope this helps, and welcome to FLORIDA.
