Need shirt recommendations

Ok, hunting season is looming  and I need a new shirt or two. Had a lovely linen blend cream colored shirt that had the stock tie loop and that was extremely comfortable in the heat, but that was cut off of me in an accident and is apparently no longer made. :frowning:

Since I am in FL, I suppose something with Coolmax would be a good idea if I can’t find linen. Needs not to be (or become) see through, and of course needs to have long sleeves, and a stock tie loop.

In short, is there anything out there that looks traditional but takes advantage of technical fabrics so I won’t be such a sticky, sodden mess at the end of a hunt on a warm day?

I have picked up a couple of Ariat Cool Max shirts on sale and another off brand shirt made of newer, cooler fabric. I love both of them!! Both of these shirts have high enough collars that I just wrap my stock tie around my neck and nothing gaps open. Heck, I don’t even know if the shirts have stock tie loops. :frowning: The shirt tails are nice and long and stay put no matter how long you are in the saddle.

SmartPak often has good shirts on their sale page so maybe check over there.

Meh. Buy a nice collared dress shirt and cut off the top half of the collar. Viola! Stock shirt.

Yet another variation is a turtleneck with the collar turned to the inside. That gives you all sorts of tech fabric options. I used this method when the weather got very cold, too. Great with a 4 fold stock.

I love the Charles Owens

I’ve bought a few on Tack of the day. they have a nice stretchy, comfortable fabric.

hmmmmmpf!

Sooooooo
Missy Grasshopper thinks SHE shouldn’t have to be a sticky, sodden mess after a hot day hunting!!! Not like the rest of us??? Well, excuuuuuuse me!!!
Isn’t she just special!!???
Why bless her heart!! :winkgrin::D:D:D:D:D

I say we throw her in the water trough
:p:p:p:p

wateryglen

Please notice I said “such a” sticky, sodden mess
no avoiding it really, would just like to minimize if possible! No need for the water trough–I already look like I’ve jumped in one at the end of every ride. On second thought, being dumped in the water trough would probably feel pretty good
ok, go for it!

DH came in absolutely sodden today after just weedwhacking around the house and along the fencelines. I took DD out for a leisurely walk to get her to sleep and I came back ready for a shower. I want to get the mare out roading but she is still not sweating well. :dead: Gotta hold out just a few more weeks, right?!

These are the Three Bra days of summer- not to be confused with a Three Dog Night. You bath and change bras mid-morning, mid-afternoon and 9:00 at night.

rednecky!!

And Florida probably has even Virginia beat in the humidity dept. You know what they say
“It’s not the heat; it’s the humidity”!!
I thought it was the 3 undies days of summer
who’s wearing a bra for cryin’ out loud!! Halter tops, jogging “bra’s” rule. and who baths?!! And will my hair EVER recover. It’s also baseball hat weather to cover hair. Oh and some water troughs are better than others imho
cleaner I mean
some? = green slime!!
Wow, I’m really whining a lot today

My vote for a cotton turtleneck with the sleeves cut off. When your coat comes off you look kinda rednecky but you’re cool. Specially if there’s loose threads hanging
you’d be the envy of all your friends because you be cool and didn’t spend all that money!!!:smiley:

I don’t have any shirt suggestions, but I just have to note one thing
I’m new to this hunting business, and in fact am in the process of arranging my first ride, with the able help of Whicker and many others

But I noticed that not one person commented on Grasshopper’s note that the beloved shirt had to be “cut off”
That sounds drastic to me, but I guess it’s pretty normal in the hunt world.

I’ve concluded that the women of the hunt world are the equestrian equivalent of rugby players

Hinderella,

You are coming up to speed quickly! No, not all of us are cut out of our clothes. I haven’t yet, for example.

Grasshopper, do you want to enlighten us with your tale of the linen shirt?

I am keeping an eye out for another shirt for you. Have you looked at Horse Country in Warrenton? The british vendors at the va hound show? (JSwan may know their names) There is always having one custom made, too.

Checking back in late
custom made?? Phffffft, that would just be begging to be cut out of another shirt, wouldn’t it?

Hinderella: see my note on your thread. I hopped off my (very tall) hunt babysitter to help someone else, and tried to hop (ha! more like scaling Mt Everest) back on without having anyone hold him. Then my memory is a bit blank but apparently I didn’t make it all the way on before he took off to rejoin the field, leaving me in the dust with a concussion. According to witness reports I hopped right up and was walking and talking, but kept repeating myself. My memory picks back up in the hospital as I was getting a CAT scan
sans shirt, with hospital gown. Le sigh. I have kept the helmet as a reminder, it is clean shorn through in front and most assuredly saved the majority of my brain cells. Two notes to self: 1. never try to remount in the field without someone holding on to the important end of the mount, and 2. ride shorter horses.

Now, I have been cut out of one other shirt, that was a stable accident and due to a moment of pure idiocy on my part. That one really did have to be cut as I incurred a broken rib and lifting my arms up over my head (it was a polo shirt) did not seem like a good idea.

But since I managed to get through almost 20 years with horses before the above two accidents, I figure I should be good for another 40 years, right?!

I have some shirts that i just love for the warmer weather. They are a white cotton blend, and they are/look like a regular white long sleeved show shirt (I refuse to wear a short sleeved shirt under my coat, sorry). In the back of the shirt on both sides are long vents with mesh.
I do believe they may also come in short sleeved, but as I said, I don’t wear those, never have. Try searching for the “Cambrai show shirt”. I remember they were hard to find but I did finally find them for a reasonable price.
I still have the box at home, I’ll look and post tomorrow if there’s a website on it.
