Need someone to look at an OTTB near Denver

I am looking for an OTTB and found a dream girl at Arapahoe Downs near Denver. Because of COVID I don’t want to travel. I’d love to have someone to check her out in person. Willing to pay fee or commission to a professional, hopefully with a particularly good eye for a prospect. If you want to look at her as she is on Retiring Racehorses- Southwest on Facebook. Her name is Trinity.

May also need to lay horse over somewhere until shipping could be arranged to Tucson, AZ.

Well, a trainer can ride and see if its sound or not crazy, but your taking a horse sight unseen. Do you have a trainer? Better do a vet check before it leaves CO to make sure your not wasting your money

If horse is on the track I don’t believe a regular old trainer would be able to ride. You need your exercise/rider license.

Would probably just be easiest to have a vet do a PPE and go from there.

I regular trainer would not be able to ride at the track. But a good trainer that has seen a lot of OTTB either on the track or fresh off the track knows what too look for in terms of movement. They know what movement is likely to become good hunter movement. They can look at conformation to see if based on the shoulder angles they should be able to jump well. The vet is only going to be able to give you an idea if the horse is going to be sound for the anticipated 2nd career. A good trainer will be able to give an idea if the horse will be a suitable prospect for that job. The trainer can hopefully talk to the groom, the race trainer and maybe the exercise jockey for clues on temperament and possible red flags for a sport horse prospect. The vet and a sporthorse trainer have different roles.

True. Mary Lee also tries to represent/have listings as accurate as possible. I’d personally opt for just a PPE, but I’ve purchased my last two sight unseen and had decent luck.

I have a good friend in the area who you couldn’t get any better (!!!) for OTTBS and SO qualified . She told me to pass on her connection info to you…so I’ll try to private message you here.

Thank you everyone! The mare I loved sold. Sigh. I’ll keep looking.

check my pm here anyway? If you want a quality OTTB, she has many connections and works with many of them

Found a lovely horse locally in Phoenix.
