My old rain jacket is finally dieing and I’m on the search again. I need something with relaxed fit for layering in winter but light and breathable for 90+ temps in summer. I’ve scoured hiking, mountain climbing and cycling sites for a serious jacket but they mostly seem to be the slim/athletic fitted styles. Any suggestions?
I have a Barbour that would fit the bill. I think it is actually a riding Mac? Not an oilskin but great for Louisiana monsoon weather. The style is roomy enough for layering.

My boyfriend and I bought the ones from Outback a couple of years ago. . .they’re duster-style (long) but made out of a lightweight, breathable material. Love 'em.
I really like my Carrhart jacket for riding, it’s loose fitting, so easy to layer under in the winter, light for spring/fall rides, waterproof and breathable, lots of pockets, and those nifty sleeve things that keep water from running up your arm

Google the website, and take my word for it, there’s nothing better. Had the raincoat one year for Rolex, where it poured all day xc. Stayed dry and cool. People were trying to buy it from me. My husband wears his jacket and pants to plow every winter and he’s toasty warm. Originally made for motorcycle riders.
Hey Red, I have one of those but it’s the devil for attracking bits of hay, shavings, horse hair,etc: heaven forbid you load a hay net while wearing one 
are the newer ones better about that?

It packs into it’s own pouch and mine becomes a little back pack too. It also has a hood that packs away into the collar.
Ornella Prosperi has a great jacket and pants. And they are actually for riding, even better. I love my set. They are light weight and toughwearing

Carharts are good.
You might want to check out Cabella’s as well…they have some pretty good stuff for mountaineer types that is waterproof and breathable (besides, if you have one nearby the store is just plain fun to cruise through).
I normally use the outer shell from my Columbia jacket and I love it!
Muddy Creek makes a serious rain slicker to keep both you and your saddle dry. Hard to beat. It is designed for horse riders.
I recommend a Gore-tex shell from LL Bean or similar in the parka length; buy a size up so you have plenty of room to layer underneath.
Mine is 10 years old and still going strong.

I have a wind challenger jacket from LL Bean. Had it for 5 years now. Its my barn jacket, riding jacket and even great layered in the winter with a sweatshirt. Light-weight. Keeps wind out and never been soaked even in the heavy rains while wearing it. They are around $70 I think.
My favorite jacket ever and one I prefer over all my other jackets and winter coats. I wear it all winter.
Only drawback, hay, shavings and hair stick to it.
I got the mens jacket as it was roomier, in Medium. I would say that is same as a woman’s large.
I got a Peregrine riding coat, water proof, breathable, comes to the top of my boot, split for in the saddle with straps to wrap around your leg. I love it. It has a back vent, and enough flare to keep a saddle dry. It is English, where they do ride in the rain.
My grumble with fabrics not designed to be worn around horses, is that they get grimy and barn, horse grease doesn’t come out of the fabric, so it ends up looking grungy even when clean.

Have several jackets and they are really well made. They were desined for Alpine sports. I also know tons of Search and Rescue people that swear by them also.

Marla 100, I too, am from Central Florida, Frogg Toggs work for me! The Sam’s Club in Sanford has a similar knock-off that has been working for me for about a year now.
