Neighbor peering around my property with a drone
coloredhorse’s video is pretty close to what my own GSD would like to do to the drone if it would just come a bit lower.

I definitely have had daydreams about shooting it down but I don’t have the right firearm for the job and I’m too close to a school anyway.

I guess I’ll start filming it filming me. OR!! I could buy my own drone and equip it for aerial dogfighting. I bet a few squirts of spray paint over the camera lens would make them think twice about bugging me. Someone needs to invent an anti drone, drone. I think we’re going to need them.
Maybe not a “real” gun, but maybe a paintball gun? If you practice enough you could probably hit it’s “eye” :D:yes:

I keep reading the title of this thread that your ‘neighbor is peeing around my property’.

 At least that has a straightforward solution…Release the hounds!

I haven’t seen hide nor hair of the drone today so maybe they knew they were pushing their luck. Cameras, wasp spray and the hose are on standby. Thanks for the ideas everyone.

If your state is a two-party law for recording individuals, this is a crime. Look into this. Not sure where Rain City is ;). But for example, in Washington, recording someone without their knowledge/consent is a misdemeanor.

Honestly, even being in LE, if something was peering into my garage, I’d play capture-the-drone, hopefully without damage, and pop out its batteries or whatever and hand it over to another cop to return. Once I knew who the owner was, a restraining order would follow. Most contain language similar to “the respondent shall not attempt to make contact with the protected person, whether in person, written, electronic, or contact others with whom it may cause distress to the protected person, and shall not attempt to surveill the protected person.” Violate that bad boy and here’s yer court date.

Look into what birds are protected by law and if they live around you. Then call the environmental Nazi’s and tell them the drone is scaring them away and they are leaving their nests of chicks behind.

Or, hire someone to take an unmarked garbage truck full of garbage and have them back into their driveway at night, and unload it.

The sheriff messaged that I would be “within my rights” to knock it down if it were say within reach of a broom

Are you Harry Potter? Is that a drone or The Golden Snitch? Who will win this game of Quidditch?

I’m sorry – I know this is not a joke. In addition to the possibility of a Peeping Tom, I’d be concerned that this guy is casing the joint. Any burglaries in your area? This might get LE to take this seriously.

How about a big hand lettered sign " I know who you are and what you are doing. The Police are on the way"

Download the FAA drone app.

https://www.faa.gov/uas/b4ufly/

Most of the country is within 5 miles of an airport. Report the violation to the police or FAA and get them to stop.

I live in a very rural area in an Ag County.

We recently were blessed with new neighbors on the next farmette. Thankully they are not “drone people”.

I told DH a long time ago, if I ever see one of those things flying over head, I am shooting it out of the sky and asking questions later. <–those-long ago-Sundays at Turkey Shoots may actually pay off, lol

Pity the person that tries to come thru our locked gate to retrieve it. My neighbor thru the woods is a deputy sheriff, the “drone people” will have to tell him why they’re climbing over our gate.

Meaning, get video or photo proof, then get some buckshot, load up the shotgun and take aim----------

I had my horses boarded out for the past few months and a neighbor was having a big shindig party. They sent a drone over that purposefully hovered over my two horses and followed them about as they ran all about. I was irrate. It takes a lot to send me over the edge and wow, my blood curdled. I was about to go charging over there on my 4-wheeler but after blood-curdling screams, the drone shot off back home.

Stoooopid people.

In the OP’s case, I would probably be offended but I would also be conjuring up hilarious revenge schemes. Paint ball gun is one. Another is to “seduce” (use your imagination) the drone into some area where it can be captured, decorate it in some bizarre and irreversible fashion, look for a very small audio recording device to glue to it, etc etc…

But first, have some fun and dance for it, sing for it, offer yourself up to it… tee heeeeee…

I might keep it for awhile, or whatever… and the capture has to work the first time or it will not make itself available. So… develop a relationship. Invite it to sit down for cocktails, whatever.

Geeze, just thinking of the things you could do… makes me want your neighbor here…

bring it on, Peeping Trone!

Nothing helpful to add except that that is the creepiest, most unsettling thing I have read in awhile. What if they run your horses through the fence? Are you allowed to shoot the stupid thing then? I hope you can get it resolved. Hadn’t even occurred to me to worry about this yet. “Yay”

What noise and nuisance ordinances are on the books in your county? Most have them. If not, get on their next meeting agenda, show them the photos and log you’re keeping of the drone visits. (i.e. start keeping detailed evidence, if you’re not already!) Bring them copies of model nuisance ordinances (find a few that seem like they’d most directly address this situation). And ask them to enact an ordinance to protect their citizens. Almost every local govt I’ve worked with is very, very interested to serve their citizens in this way, and your case is so outrageous that it’s hard to imagine any objection.

Hope you’ve got a good lawyer and a lot of money. You’ll likely need it!!!

G.

P.S. I’m in East TN and at least one of my neighbors has an automatic weapon. I’d give him the same advice I’d give anyone and that’s don’t shoot the thing unless you can establish that it’s posing a direct threat to your health, safety, or welfare. Then have your lawyer on “speed dial.”

G., what’s your take on the angle The Jenners mentioned, wrt to those places which require permission of all parties to record?

Although expensive, I did like your idea of a second drone to track the intruder home…

Are full auto’s illegal in TN? Are they on private property?

All you need is a jammer and a fishing net. Oh my…it just fell out of the sky. You could end up with a collection.

Super soaker filled with half water half black latex paint.

I’m thinking one of those fighting kites and a tragic accident.

Nothing to help the OP, but this statement made by airhorse makes me

Most of the country is within 5 miles of an airport.

Have you ever lived in a rural area? The closest airport to my house is 50 miles

It’s any airport, helipad, seaplane, private landing strip, not just big ones. I think you would be shocked at the percentage of populated areas that are now drone restricted.
